She was amazing! What a great experience. I drove 2 hours for her to alter my wedding gown and it was 100% worth it. You cannot beat the quality of work for the price. She was personable, professional, easy to work with, responsive to my messages, accommodating. She took my plain zipper back dress and turned it into a gorgeous lace up back, and did a 5-point bustle that looks beautiful. I recently had a bridesmaids dress shortened, bra cups sewn in and the overall fix adjusted (the neckline was loose). The dress fits perfectly! Andrea was very accommodating and understanding about a rescheduling issue and very friendly at my fitting. I would recommend her for any alterations and will return with any additional alterations in the future!

I was using a Web search looking for an antique wedding dress designer when I came across Andrea Zax on Thumb Tack. I wanted to wear my mother's antique dress from 1969. I needed someone who could take it apart, add material from the train to fit my body type, and modernize it. I also wanted someone who could take my sister's wedding dress and design a veil that would accent the dress. Andrea was welcoming, kind, and respectful. She is a skilled seamstress and did an amazing job. Within just a few fittings she had the dress and veil complete and they are absolutely both beautiful! I would highly recommend her.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My custom gowns start at $1,500.00 + materials, this is your dream gown made just for you lace, silk train whatever you like.
If you have a smaller budget I have the economy gown that starts at 800.00. This gown has certain limitation including no trains, no strapless gowns and no chiffon. I need lead time of no less than 4 months to create a gown. Rush alterations are priced at 50.00/ hr for my time and I estimate the price when I see the dress. Alterations with a 2 week or more window are estimated at 40.00/hr. Any materials I need are added to this price.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With a new customer when I feel they are a good fit for me we set up a consultation and they come to me with pictures or the dress they want or a dress that needs work done on and we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. I have worked in Theater for 30 years at all the major theaters in Boston, including Boston Ballet, The American Repertory Theater, Boston Conservatory. I have also worked at Sarasota Opera, in Sarasota Fl. I have taught adult education for 8 years at Brookline Adult Ed. and Holyoke Continuing Ed. in Holyoke, MA. I have had my own Custom Bridal Business for 20 years. I also have my CNA certificate, I'm compassionate and caring which carries into everything I do!
