FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Many of my floor refinishing jobs these past few years have been in older homes (new construction seems to have slowed; so the need for finishing new homes has lessened). Often the refinishing has been for home that are newly purchased, and the owners want their floors in "Like new" condition before they move in. Much of my work is also for people with their homes on the market to sell. While sparkling "Like New" floors may not increase the homes valuation, they do help the house to sell faster and at prices closer to the asking price (prospective buyers won't have to price haggle over the floors condition). Many of the floors I refinish are done for people who are living in their homes and are doing home improvements. Sometimes folks are doing just one floor at a time, sometimes they are having all their floors done (often while they are away on vacation). I do all sorts of refinishing jobs though, including offices, commercial spaces, restaurants, gyms and meeting halls.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The most challenging hardwood floor refinishing jobs usually involve any of the following factors: vintage plank floors (typically warped), staining wood with dark stains, staining pine floors, large amount of nail setting, repairs in hard to get to spots on the floor. We at Sousa Floors were 'blessed' to have a recent refinishing job that included each of the above factors! ... and not just on one floor, but in all seven large rooms in this 200 plus year old farm house in ski country. Hours of nail setting were followed by careful pains taking sanding of rolling (and rocking) pine plank floors. Prepping for stain.. especially the dark Walnut Minwax stain, all ways requires extra fine detail work. Next we hand rubbed in and wiped smooth (by hand, on our knees) stain on 1500 square feet of floor. Three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane later... beautiful newly done. vintage pine plank flooring that complimented the colonial era decor. The home owners were thrilled, and after a week of work we returned home from our labor of love.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Throughout the Worcester region and Western Massachusetts are many excellent Hardwood floor refinishing professionals. Having worked with numerous ones over many years (many who I count as friends) I can heartily recommend their services. It is important to know who you are retaining to work in your house however, as their have been those whose work and/or personal traits may be untrustworthy.
