About this pro

How does your business stand out?

We are fun, but very professional. With 18 years experience playing weddings, parties, dances, and fundraisers around New England, we have many happy clients. People of all ages and walks of life enjoy our mix of 1940's songs to Motown and R&B era dance and listening music. We love what we do and are easy to work with. We have a great sound with 3 singers, sax, guitar, piano, bass and drums which makes us versatile for many different types of events. We are flexible, can also do a smaller group, duo to 6-piece. Just get in touch and let us know what you are thinking about for your music!

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

We love the style of music that we play so enjoy our variety of gigs. We like being part of a happy occasion like a wedding or anniversary or birthday, as well as adding background music for a quieter event or part of an event, cocktail hour or dinner. People enjoy listening to our vocal harmonies and horn & guitar section music, as well as loving our groove for dancing or just tapping their feet. We enjoy working with people to tailor our music to their party.

Bringing Generaltions Together in Dance and Song
The O-Tones was our only choice for our commitment ceremony, with Mary Witt making it easy to contact and make arrangements. Their mix of R&B, Swing, Rock and Motown was perfect for our multi-generational guests. We stepped out of 21st century, sliding into the 1930’s then 40’s then 50’s, leaving our guests with at least one genre they fully enjoyed dancing to. We were pleased with the sound, the arrangement, and energy level that The O-Tones brought out in our quests. Mary appreciated that we were having a black tie event and beautifully/handsomely blended into the lovely setting at The Amherst Women’s Club. We have since seen The O-Tones play in other venues and continue to enjoy their sound, music, style and energy. You will be pleasantly surprised and pleased with your guests’ reaction.

Mary Witt and the Otones have graced a number of personal and professional events I have organized. We can not say enough about their talent and skill at reading and providing what a group of people need to have tons of fun! We recommend them without reservation.

Mary is warm, smart and professional. She was very quick to respond to questions I had about booking her band for my wedding. At the event, they sounded great and were so much fun to watch! I can't say enough about The O-Tones. My friend Dana booked them after seeing them at my wedding and I think it's safe to say she had the same experience.

I have listened to, danced to, and worked with the O-Tones for a very long time. They have played at several swing dances I've attended, played at my wedding, and played at several events over the years. Most especially I appreciate Mary's excellent vision for celebrations and events. For example, Mary and I created a fundraiser for the Northampton Community Music School a couple of years ago. It was my 50th birthday celebration with the goal of raising money for scholarships at the Music School. Mary had great ideas about how to organize the event and make it work with music. The Tones played some of my personal favorites and also catered to my guests. It was a fabulous time with dancing, easy listening, and a lot of celebrating! Exquisite vocals---hot harmony, jazzy sax, and sassy tunes make for a dancers dream. Lots of opportunities to "shine" on the dance floor! Dance "sideliners" also have plenty of toe tapping opportunities. The O-Tones have been around for a while---and there is good reason for their continued success and demand throughout the Northeast and beyond. Even though I am not looking forward to turning another decade, I'm really looking forward to have the O-Tones play at the party!

They are superb! Could not be happier. Mary was a wonderful person to work with and their music is fabulous. They were responsive to our requests, flexable, and so easy to work with! I would use them again and again if I lived in the area.

We had members of the O-Tones recently play at a benefit for our organization. Their upbeat, infectious music set just the right tone for our event! We will definitely invite them back.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is priced by band size and length of time we play and distance we have to travel. It's not complicated, but best priced individuallly depending on what the client wants and how many special requests they need.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Not specifically, but playing with various musicians is always an enriching experience.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
We have all played various instruments and styles of music in our lives. We have come together to share songs we love, getting to sing and play them together, a little different each time, keeping them fresh and fun for ourselves and our clients.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Weddings, parties, fundraisers, dances, outdoor shows, and more.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We played for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and helped raise $40,000 for people who don't have enough to eat.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look at our videos. Listen to our professional sound. See how long we've been doing this and how much we love it.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
How hard we work to do well the music we play. We pick songs we love and arrange them for our 3 singers plus guitar, sax, piano, bass, and drums. We love to make the songs our own and have beautiful tight arrangements which really show off the talents of the individual musicians as well as the collaborative work in the band.
