FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The consignment and purchase of estate items for my new auction venue has been keeping me busy. But also, lately I've been doing a lot of Appraisal Day events. These are wonderful fund raisers at which I talk about antiques and do on the spot appraisals. It's kind of like a small Antiques Road Show. These are great money makers for the organizations that put them on because they can raise money without having to invest any money. There's also a very small workload required on their part. I walk them through it step-by-step.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be sure to have the items you wish to keep for yourself clearly set aside from the items you wish to liquidate. The cleaner you make that dividing line, the more help an auctioneer can be to you. Much auction miscommunication involves unclear boundaries in this critical area.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
That an auction is THE best way to raise fast cash. It's not always the best way to get top dollar for all of your items, but when you need to sell a lot of things, fast, there is no better way to do it. That said, too many people jump into it without having any idea what kind of auctioneer they need to work with. My advice here is consult with at least one before you make any decisions.
