- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My love of nutrition began my freshman year of college. I purchased a nutrition plan that provided education on how nutrition impacts the body, and I was so fascinated by it! I quickly found myself rattling off nutrition facts to anyone and everyone who would listen to me. This love and appreciation of nutrition grew as I implemented changes into my diet and saw what a difference it made for my health. Not only did I lose about 20 lbs, but I had more mental clarity and energy. Nutrition became the obvious choice for my undergraduate studies, and I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. After graduation, I went on to become a personal trainer through ISSA and immediately jumped into nutrition coaching. I had great success coaching my clients on weight loss, muscle gain, and overall healthy eating, however I was frequently troubled by a trend among many of my clients. Although they had seen some positive results, many of my clients were dealing with deeper issues- chronic fatigue, digestive issues, rashes on their skin from an autoimmune reaction, etc. I felt frustrated because I so badly wanted to help my beloved clients, yet I did not have the tools to assess what was going on. I knew that nutrition could provide healing, but I had no idea how to determine someone’s unique nutritional needs. That’s when I found the Nutritional Therapy Association. The NTA provided education that gave me the tools I needed to help my clients. As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I now perform a full functional assessment to identify where inflammation and other issues are stemming from in the body, and can create a plan to support the body foundationally through whole food nutrition to promote healing. It is now my personal mission to educate, encourage, and equip my clients to understand their own unique needs, and how to best take care of their bodies through whole food nutrition and lifestyle factors.
