About this pro
We believe in family entertainment and go out of our way to book ourselves only at places that would not only entertain families, but would say something about the work we do. Josef has been performing as "Harry the Clown" since 2003. Harry has been seen at multiple church/school events, birthday parties, corporate parties and Harry has been the yearly clown at Dedham's Trunk or Treat event since October 2012. Josef can be hired as a clown for one, two, or three hour parties. Also, Josef can be hired as a balloon twister. He is skilled in simple and various complex animal balloons, and will also do magic tricks at a birthday party per request. Since the summer of 2015, Josef has entertained at several birthday parties, one July Movie Theater Event, and one Trunk or Treat event in October of that year. Since then, he has been hired multiple times on Thumbtack for birthday parties, 1st Communion Parties, corporate events, and even a few July 4th parties. Josef has been the annual balloon twister for the Medford Public Library's Summer Reading Kick-Off two years in a row, North End Athletic Association's Little League Baseball games two years running, and the Motherbrook Arts & Community Center's Open Studios events since 2015. As a balloon twister, he makes sure every child gets exactly what they want and everyone walks away happy. Samples of some of his work are included on his website and here on Thumbtack. As with all our performers, Josef Silvia has liability insurance and is background checked certified. He is willing to submit to a CORI if needed, as safety is always paramount at any event. Josef aims to bring a smile a day to both you and your children through either clowning or balloon artistry. "I love meeting new people, entertaining families and making sure everyone has a smile on their face at the end of their day. The fact that I can come to a party or event and deliver a smile with a balloon is a privilege and honor that I don't take lightly. This is a unique occupation that I thoroughly enjoy and do my best to get better every year." --Josef Silvia

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Balloon Artist Standard Rates: 1 Hour Party: $75 2 Hour Party: $115 3 Hour Event: $135 4 Hour Event: $175 Harry/Gary the Clown: Half Hour Party: $85 Hour Party: $125 Two Hour Party: $145 Four Hour Event: $175* *Rates are also quoted and negotiated based on the amount of people expected at your party for any length of time. For instance, we would quote slightly higher if you expected 300 guests to get balloons in a two hour time frame than we would if you had a party of 7-50 guests.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? What I usually do is I send the customer my quote and rate for the services they are asking for. Sometimes I tweak my rates depending on what they need. For example, if someone wants balloon artistry for 20 kids for a 3 hour event, I will ask them to clarify how long they expect me to stay before I send them my final quote. The reason for this, is 20 kids can be taken care of within a short hour's time frame and I wouldn't want to over-charge for my services. Once I know exactly what my client wants and we have agreed on the final quote, I will send them an invoice detailing everything we discussed. My arrival time is based on when the client asks me to show up. For large events, I am often asked to come 15-20 minutes early. For birthday parties, I'm usually asked to come 5 minutes early. My aim is always customer satisfaction.
- How did you get started doing this type of work? When I was sixteen years old, my parents bought me a book on how to make balloon animals, and so I began making balloon animals, both simple and complex. The following Christmas, I was given a clown suit, three bags of balloons, and a large book. I learned how to make balloons early on from this book, and have kept adding balloons to my repertoire ever since.
