Introduction: Golden Tone Piano Service provides tuning services for the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals since 2015. Krishna (Kris) Swami is the sole proprietor of the business and Registered Piano Technician with almost a decade of experience in the field. Kris received world-class training and certification at the esteemed North Bennet Street School and annually attends Piano Technician’s Guild seminars to keep up with a changing industry, expanding their knowledge and expertise. Your piano playing experience should inspire you to create music and it is our pleasure to help make that experience a reality for you. To schedule an appointment, please contact us or visit our website to book online. The service I provide is both friendly and professional. I focus on the unique relationship the pianist or student has with their instrument. Quite often, I am called upon to help mend the relationship when the piano is not agreeing with the pianist! The end result of the labor I perform on an instrument is extremely satisfying. Seeing a client enjoy their instrument when it has been brought back to life is very rewarding. I love meeting all sorts of people and hearing their stories and getting to know the quirks of their pianos as well. Golden Tone Piano Service is a female LGBTQ+ minority-owned and operated business. Accepts cash, check, major credit cards, and Venmo. Cash payments are eligible for discounts. Non-profits organization in nonresidential buildings are eligible for discount. Piano Tuning

The piano sounds great, he clearly knows what he is doing. He cleaned the piano thoroughly as well as tuning it. It is almost 100 years old & I doubt that that has been done before. he is dedicated to his craft. He phoned to let me know he was running late & had the best interest of the piano and it's sound in mind.

Awesome service by Kris Swami at Golden Tone Piano! They were very responsive to my husband and I online and over the phone. We're not knowledgeable about piano maintenance, and weren't sure what services we needed for our old piano, so Kris talked us through the different options available. Kris didn't try to up or down sell us on anything, which we greatly appreciated -- they just gave us candid suggestions given the unknown age of our piano and how often we play it. We decided to go with just a tuning for this time, since Kris said they'd look for any extra issues we'd need to resolve in the future. We were able to book an appointment easily online within the week. Kris was kind and professional, wearing a mask and gloves, when they came over to tune the piano. After tuning, Kris gave us background information about our piano (it's over 90 years old! who knew?), showed us the remaining issues with it, and let us know it's on its last leg, so we may or may not want to put a lot of money into the larger fixes (again, super appreciative to hear this from a technician). We'll definitely be hiring Golden Tone Piano for our piano services in the future!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

    My pricing includes cost of travel and booking fees. The Package Deals and Tune-Ups are often the best value services and take care of all your concerns. I will often recommend these Tune-Ups for pianos that need cleaning, haven't been tuned in a while, or if some of the notes are not working properly.   • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

    When I come into contact with a new customer, I need to know their name, location of the piano, contact info, type of piano (if known), how often they play it and what type of music they typically play. These details are not only important, but they help me connect with the client on a personal level and aid in the quality of my service. Clients may contact me to book an appointment, or they may visit my website to book online. The online booking system will show you what I have available around a day that they pick as their ideal day to have the work done. Once booked, you will recieve a confirmation email a few days before the appointment. If you opt in for text alerts, you will be notified through a third-party, no-reply texting phone number that I am on my way and how long it will be before I arrive. Cash or checks are the preferred method of payment, though I can also accept all major credit cards. After our appointment, you may opt in for service reminders, however frequently you would like them. Every six months to once a year is generally recommended for most scenarios.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    I attend annual conferences and conventions that the Piano Technician's Guild helps organize. I am on the board of the Piano Technician's Guild Rhode Island Chapter and attend bi-monthly meetings where I stay up to date on the latest developments in my field. I also graduated from North Bennet Street School's two year Piano Technology Program in Boston, where I was taught my trade by the industries leading instructors and other skilled craftsman. Internships at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Sing for Hope in New York City, Harvard University, and experience serving the Boston Public Schools' pianos gave me an excellent base for the start of my career.
