JMJ Gardens was wonderful to work with. Justin responded promptly to my inquiry and provided a reasonable estimate to complete the work I needed. My back garden has been transformed with some additional new plantings. Justin and his crew removed and transplanted some of the overgrown shrubs in the front and made excellent suggestions for new shrubs. Justin and his crew were professional and very accommodating. I highly recommend JMJ Gardens!

Justin is an amazing person. He just came to our house for a few relatively small garden projects. I am over the top impressed with JMJ. We will have him back soon for a few more enhancements. I can't recommend Justin enough.

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

We hired JMJ Gardens to remove existing weeds, dig out invasive root systems, and weed whack parking lot weeds for a multi-unit property. They showed up to the property the day before the planned date without notice, and only weed whacked the parking lot weeds. They did not remove the existing weeds entirely or dig out existing root systems. The day after they did the work (which was the scheduled date), Justin texted saying that the existing area was infested with poison ivy and that once we are ready to replant the area and mulch, then they will be able to return to clean up the poison ivy roots properly. When we asked him to take pictures of the that work was done, he said he forgot to, when in actuality the work was done a day before. Given the dishonesty, we decided not to move forward with the 2nd estimate for mulching and requested that they finish the scope of work from this estimate. Justin refused to do so under the current estimate, stating he would have to charge more money at $110/hour to finish the scope of work that was part of the original estimate. After we expressed dissatisfaction with the work and pointed out that he did not complete the work as stated in estimate, he sent us a revised invoice, taking off the scope of work that was incomplete - which is why this review is 2 stars instead of 1. Although JMJ Gardens markets that they only charge $50/hr on Thumbtack, he charged us $110/hour. They also charged us a fee of $60 for debris removal of one full ton truck when our debris filled less than half, since no roots were removed.

Details: Residential • Large (5,000 - 10,000 sq ft) • Over a month ago • Yes, herbicides are fine • No, I don't need to be there • Only one time

JMJ Gardens's reply
Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry to hear you were unhappy with how things turned out. A few things I want to clarify: our crew came a day early because we had an opening, and your Thumbtack profile noted that no one needed to be home during service. Still, we should’ve given you a heads-up! Once on-site, we discovered a very significant poison ivy infestation that was not at all mentioned during the estimate. My team member began clearing it but wasn’t able to handle the remaining debris due to a serious allergy (which would cause him to break out in hives and possible suffocation). I followed up the next day to explain that I would personally return to handle the root removal safely once the foliage had properly dried. The poisonous oil- urushiol oil is present in the leaves, stems and root system. This is still active and could cause a reaction, even after the plant has been killed. As well, I did explain this was covered in the stated invoice, with no additional charges. The $110/hr rate mentioned was for two experienced gardeners — not per person — and that was communicated before offering any extra work beyond the original estimate. Despite the miscommunication and change in scope, I revised your invoice and generously charged only half the original amount to reflect the work completed. I also spent over an hour on multiple phone calls during the project to offer guidance and updates, and another hour more recently trying to ensure you walked away with a positive experience — even after you decided not to move forward with the next phase of work. As for the $60 disposal fee, that covers the base rate for hauling and site drop-off — it’s not calculated by how full the truck is. We put a lot of care and effort into what we do and always aim to treat clients with respect. I wish you the best with the rest of your landscaping plans.

I can’t say enough good things about Justin and his team. My space has been completely transformed, the attention to detail and overall result exceeded my expectations. He listened to my ideas, offered helpful suggestions, and brought everything to life in a way that felt both creative and functional. It’s rare to find a company that combines great customer service with such high-quality work. Highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their space!!

Hey Rylee, You and Eric have been great clients over the years. The backyard really came together installing the deck that you designed. Great vision and thoughtful aesthetics went into this well planned space. Hope this really changes your summer for the better. Tell Rico and Reese I say hi!
