- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first session is focused on assessment and making sure the client is comfortable working with me. Based on the assessment, I determine the client's need and learning style. There's no universal approach to learning--the greatest strength of the tutor/student relationship is customization. My teaching philosophy: learning should be fun, above all. Fun doesn't preclude rigor; the key is ensuring sure the client enjoys the process while optimizing their learning.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been part of the writing faculty at MIT since 2017. I received my MFA in Fiction from Boston University. In addition to teaching at MIT, I’ve held visiting professorships at UNC Charlotte and Boston College, and a distinguished writer-in-residency at Kingston University (London). I have a strong publication record, including award-winning short stories and critically-acclaimed novels with Simon & Schuster and Random House. I've been a culture essayist for Vanity Fair since 2014, writing about art, film, travel, and food.
