Introduction: I am a licensed, insured Registered Nurse in private practice. As a former critical care nurse, in 1998 I serendipitously came to 'Integrative Healthcare' by learning about Reiki at a nursing educational conference. This led to my first reiki session, and the trajectory of my nursing career changed.
My first Reiki session was so profoundly and deeply relaxing, I asked, "why aren't we offering this in healthcare?" The 'seed was planted.' I have spent the past 22 years helping bring reiki and other integrative therapies (hypnosis, breath work, meditation, guided imagery) into mainstream healthcare. The ultimate goal: offering customers empowering education, tools and support for 'self-care' and 'self-healing.'
I have offered reiki sessions, lectured, taught, have been part of, initiated and/or coordinated reiki programs as a consulting nurse at numerous hospitals and healthcare settings on the North Shore and Boston area, including Mass General, Tufts Medical Center and North Shore Medical Center Cancer Centers, Addison Gilbert Hospital (Gloucester MA), Northeast Healthcare/Lahey Danvers Pain Management, and numerous extended care facilities and senior centers north of Boston and on Cape Ann.
I began teaching Western Usui Reiki Ryoho in 2000 privately, and at the North Shore Medical Center. First, as an apprentice with my first teacher. Ten years into my practice, I met Hyakuten Inamoto, a Buddhist monk from Kyoto, Founder of the Komyo Reiki System. Drawn to the simplicity yet 'depth' of his style, I have taken his teacher training 12 times, hosted Sensei twice in Boston, and traveled to Japan to learn more. I teach all levels of Komyo ReikiDo - 'the Way' of Reiki, emphasizing 'daily' practice, for self-care and spiritual development.
My first experience with hypnosis was as a teenager. I found the experience interesting, fun and very relaxing. In my 20's, I began working with hypnosis with a goal of stopping smoking. I finally succeeded in 1997 after 22 years of smoking. A combination of conventional tobacco treatment self-reiki, self-hypnosis, and meditation helped me finally STOP. These self-care tools have also allowed me to 'remain' smoke-FREE for over 24 years, as well as move beyond some personal fears and health issues.
So helpful were these integrative therapies, that when my professional nursing practice moved into a more holistic approach to healthcare, these were the tools I sought to train in to integrate into my nursing practice.
I not only offer these services, but also teach these tools to clients and patients for the purpose of promoting self-care, self-healing, and empowering them to relax, heal, make positive, healthy changes and attain healthy positive goals. Allowing them to live happier, healthier lives.
