- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always reseach your home improvement prospective contractor. Check to see that they are Licensed to sell and provide Home improvements in your state. Confirm that they have Current Liability insurance and Workers' Compensation insurance so you can not be held liable to pay for damages and injury claims if they were to occur on your project. Ask to see proof of license and insurance, and if they refuse then be safe and choose another contractor. Research their company on the internet to see if they are present. Most established companies will have numerous links and a home website to provide information about their company. Check with local Better Business Bureau to see if the company has any existing unresolved complaints and to see their BBB rating based on such information. Finally the personal experience is highly important in the deciding factor in choosing the right contractor. Do they listen and record your ideas for the project or are they only pushing you to what they want to give you. Are they professional in appearence and in their manorism. If not then the actual workers are sure to be even less so. Make sure the estimate too is professional, contains all the company information, including license numbers, and includes details of the entire project specifications of process and materials used. Lowest price should not be the deciding factor when choosing between contractors with different strengths. Cost or value should be based on product quality, warranties, and quality of service before, during, and after the project has completed.
