About
It is too easy, when teaching an instrument, to fall into a routine of assigning and playing exercises without talking about WHY the student should play a certain thing. I always emphasize the "why" as much as the "how" and I always focus on the most important aspects of the instrument: creativity, expression, and fun.
I've been giving private drum lessons for over 20 years and have worked with several hundreds of students of all ages, backgrounds, and musical interests.
In addition to drums, I also teach world percussion (bodhran, tapan, doumbek, djembe, bongo, cajon, and more) as well as music production with Ableton Live. I teach music production courses at both American University and George Washington University and offer the same instruction in the form of private lessons (for a small fraction the cost of a college course!).
Whatever your interests are, drop me a line and we'll get you on the path to achieving your musical goals!

I truly enjoyed working with Andrew. The hour lesson flew by. He identified my weaknesses and gave recommendations for improvement. He is very proficient at drumming and teaching. I highly recommend Andrew.

Andrew is extremely nice. You can tell he has been teaching for a while. I went into my first lessons with expectations of what I was looking for, and Andrew met all of my expectations and then some! I have already been playing drums for a little bit, and I am looking for Andrew to help me with some specific things, and Andrew was able to come up with a lesson plan exclusive to my needs and is still helping me improve in other areas. I could go on and on about how great Andrew is as a teacher, but nothing in writing can describe how great my first experience was with Andrew. I hope more drummers young and old looking for teachers chose to learn with Andrew because he simply is in a class of his own.

Andrew is a terrific instructor. He starts with the basics and as a result a solid foundation is started for good drumming. Andrew customizes lessons and genres to individual preferences and needs, and knows how to keep it fun while learning. I would recommend Andrew as an instructor to friends and family looking to learn how to drum.

Andrew is a great teacher for my 9 yr old son. He's very knowledgeable about the drums and very accessible for my son to relate to. We're excited to have found him and look forward to learning from him!

I am very happy with my drumlessons with Andrew. He is a wonderful teacher, taking me further along each week, but not overwhelming me in the process. The company, 7DrumLessons is efficiently and professionally run (during the hours I am there) by Alex.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer lessons in both College Park and downtown Washington DC. Both locations are complete with multiple drumsets and other accompanying instruments and teaching materials.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My curriculum is highly goals-based. My goal is to help you achieve yours! Even if the goal is broad (like becoming a better drummer) we will determine the steps to make that a reality.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am always practicing! No matter what level you are at, there is always room for improvement and it is important to have an attitude of continual self-improvement.
