Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I am patient, encouraging and compassionate. My students see the thrill on my face and in my voice when they do a really good job or make a really good effort. They know that I believe they can do it, and that I will be there, supporting them, all the way. I have chosen to tutor only subjects that I love, and I enjoy transferring my enthusiasm for the subject to my students. Mostly, though, I enjoy my students. They are wonderful young people, trying their hardest and usually not getting the rewards they should for their efforts.

I worked with Sylvia for two years when she was the learning specialist at the Washington International School and I was a tutor who provided supplemental instruction for students in English. I found Sylvia to be very attentive and concerned about her students both in and outside of the classroom. Sylvia regularly kept me informed about what was going on in their classes and at home so I could tailor my lessons accordingly. For example, a student I was tutoring in ESL experienced a death in the family, and Sylvia and I worked together to create a lesson that allowed the young girl to write about her family member and express her sadness. Sylvia very much had an open door policy as well, and was always encouraging students to come speak to her if they needed guidance. I would recommend Sylvia as a highly knowledgeable and supportive resource to any student.

Ten years ago, we returned with two sons, then aged 12 and 10, to the United States, where they had been educated till then in overseas international schools. The transition for our older son was particularly difficult. His K-8 Catholic school proved to be a bad fit for his needs, and he was having difficulty in all his classes. Sylvia Winik as tutor and adviser for him proved to be a life-saver. Not only did she immediately establish a great rapport with him, but she went the extra mile in consulting with his teachers and meeting his needs. She also was able, at a crucial point, to help us with the choice of a high school that was a great fit for him and where he prospered. He is now a senior in college and doing very well. Our whole family acknowledges the great contribution Sylvia Winik made to our son's educational success and happiness when he most needed support.

I have known Sylvia Winik for decades - first as a neighbor, and more recently as a colleague on a non-profit, community-building activity. She establishes goals and gets to work to achieve them. She is a strong advocate on behalf of her cause, and knows how to open doors that will lead to a successful outcome. Sylvia has strong analytical skills, and is gently assertive in making sure that her viewpoint is heard. She sees the big picture. She is a good collaborator, and has a good feel for when and where there should be compromise. Sylvia is a person of high integrity. She is well-liked and respected. She is a great colleague and an asset to any team.

I feel proud to get a chance to your conversation class and get a teacher like you. You have all the skills and quality to teach an adult student. And you know where is our weakness.
