Personal Training

I have been working with Steve as my personal trainer for almost a year. My goal was very specific… improve my strength in core areas to help improve my rowing. I’ve been very impressed with the level of background work Steve did in improving his understanding of rowing and the primary muscles used as well as how receptive he is to feedback from me and my rowing coaches. Beyond that I’ve been impressed with Steve’s attention to details and safety while at the same time providing subtle but effective encouragement and motivation. I’ve notice improvement in my rowing this year thanks in part to what Steve has helped me improve on.

I've been working with Steve for about 2 years now and have noticed great improvements. For me, we generally do a full body workout in a circuit-style training. Recently I've told him about my lower back pain and he's catered the exercises and stretches to help with that. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and he'll work with you to figure out what is best for your body and your goals. He's also very flexible with hours which is great with my work hours. He'll also work with your diet and give suggestions for food choices and lifestyle changes so that you can meet and maintain your fitness goals. If you're looking for a personal trainer, especially if it's your first time, I would definitely suggest considering Steve.

Personal Training

After three sessions, I've been quite pleased with Steve. We're doing thirty minute sessions and we're doing them very efficiently. Done with this? Do that. All the while he's able to keep conversation going so that these routines do not become dull. My energy and restfulness while asleep has already increased a lot, and faster than I had expected it to at this stage. While I had once been able to whip myself into shape once before, I felt like I needed help this time, and I'm glad I did because this has been a very good experience. He gave me the first session for free, and I've bought eleven more. I've also have already seen improvements in my fitness level from session one to session three. He's also been giving me dietary advice as well, which I have followed. I feel that if I keep at this, the weight I want to lose is sure to wither up and die. ____________________________________________________________ UPDATE: Been working out with Steve for about six months now, consistently. I started off a bloated and miserable 220 pounds to a low of 185 (-35 pounds). More importantly the the weight loss has been the improvements to my lifestyle and diet. Where Steve excels is in his ability to push you but not so hard that you're left sore and burnt out to the point where you're cursing the next workout session. Often I'm not even sore after a workout, despite being plenty tired. He made me plenty of diet recommendations, many of which I have followed: Eat at the same times everyday. No snacking in-between meals. It's okay to feel hungry. This has changed when my body feels hungry and how important I feel it is to eat when getting that first hunger pang. His laid back temperament is also great for beginners. Steve is going to push you, but he's not the yell-y kind who makes you feel bad for not being able to do more than you can. He's very good at finding your initial limits and building you up from there. And he's affordable to boot! My only criticism is that he's focused primarily on weight lifting. I think that he could add more cardio training into his workouts and get better overall results as cardio and aerobic exercises burn more calories (although what and how much you eat plays a much larger role in body weight). So I would suggest hitting the treadmill or elliptical afterwards. A non-Steve note: One of the biggest changes I made was discovering how much I like sparkling water, flavored seltzer and mineral water. This was HUGE. Unbeknownst to me, I crave carbonation more than the beverage itself. Suddenly, I was no longer craving soda and beer, both of which I were problems more than food ever was. I've not had a beer or a soda in five months, save for some gingerale while sick and there is no doubt that this contributed to my weight loss as much as the diet and exercise.

Steve is a knowledgeable and kind trainer who pushes you to continually improve and work up to heavier weights. I’ve seen good progress from working with him for 1 year now. I also appreciate his flexibility with accommodating schedules. Chat him up about craft beer and movies and you’re golden!

I've been training with Steve for more than a year. I had a herniated disc before I started training with Steve. Steve has been mindful of my previous injuries and has worked with me to strengthen my core, and my other muscles. In the last year, I feel I have gotten much stronger, and able to endure longer in any strenuous physical activity.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge a flat rate of $65.00/hr. Clients must pay upfront for sessions. No cash refunds. Sessions must be used within 6 months. Every new client receives a free consultation and fitness assessment. Nutritional coaching comes with the training. Once you become my client, you can contact me any time in regards to workouts, diet and supplements!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first step is to schedule a consultation to go over goals, exercise and health history. The second step is a fitness evaluation to asses the clients current physical abilities and limitations. Once that is established I'm able to design a proper program for that client.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I became a certified personal trainer through ACE in August 2002. I've maintained this through continuing education courses. I graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in 1998. I have a partial college education from Loyola College, Catonsville Community College, and UMBC.
