Russ is a great bass guitar teacher. Ive been working with him weekly for about 6 months now. I was a complete beginner when we started and Im really starting to get the hang of things now. Hes very knowledgeable about the instrument as well as music theory, and tailors your lessons to meet your needs. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend Russ. I am a fairly accomplished and confident musician on a range of instruments, and have taken lots and lots of private lessons over the past 57 years. I was asked to play bass guitar in a band and had never played that instrument before. I contacted Russ to show me a few things. One thing led to another and Russ inspired me to pursue jazz bass guitar, and my understanding and comprehension of music evolved on a whole new level. Russ' approach to learning music theory is amazing. Learning theory can be overwhelming, but Russ has a wonderful way of explaining and teaching it. Russ is extremely patient, kind and understanding. He's a problem-solver and extraordinarily helpful in working through issues, whether musical, instrumental, audio/visual, whatever. I took in person lessons, which were very helpful to get started, and then Russ patiently helped me set up an audio/video system with my computer so I can do my lessons remotely. Both work really well. Russ is an outstanding teacher and a super nice person, and I highly recommend for beginning and advanced students, young and old.

After about three years of lessons with Russ, I have nothing but great things to say. He's helped me grow immensely as a player, and no matter how much I improve, he always has something new for me to work on. His specificity and attention to detail is incredible and it is one of the most useful aspects of his teaching in my opinion. He helps you set very specific and personalized goals that are straightforward enough to easily follow, and if there is any small habit you're developing that will possibly slow you down in the future, he's on it. I've also been there to witness him constantly refining and experimenting with the materials and approaches he gives to his students. Overall, Russ is a very dedicated teacher who is always open to and striving for improvement. I could not recommend him more highly not just for beginners, but for anybody interested in improving with the help of someone else.

Russ is the best music teacher I've ever had. He's been a professional bass for decades AND he's a professional gigging bassist. It's a rare privilege to take 1 on 1 lessons from someone as talented as him. I've been taking weekly lessons with him for over 3 years now. I started as a total beginner (I hadn't played an instrument since high school marching band 25 years earlier). Now I'm playing everything from improvised walking basslines to slap bass to the Beatles and Jason Isbell. Whether you're a beginner thinking about picking up the bass or you've played it for years, you should absolutely call him.
