Russ is my teacher. His music and bass guitar knowledge and translation is immaculate (A+). I walked into my first session with him a couple of months ago with no knowledge. I did not even know how to hold the guitar. He customized my training and today I am proud to say that I can tackle some complex songs. We have navigated from Gospel to Blues to Jazz to R&B to Reggae. In as little as three weeks I was able to perfectly play the Blues. Russ is so good that he went with me to choose and purchase my first bass guitar. Today I play the bass guitar and at the same time enjoy my training. I will highly recommend him to anyone that has never played the bass guitar before and even for bass professionals. Russ is a professional !!!!!!

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training • Yes, the student can read music • Jazz • No, but the student is planning to purchase an instrument • 60 minutes • My home, venue, etc. • At the pro’s location

I've taken bass lessons from a number of teachers in a variety of settings over the last 3 years. Russ is by far the best teacher I've had and his knowledge of all things bass runs deep. His online lessons are very thorough and convenient and he can adapt to whatever your skill level or goals may be. He's able to take concepts that have, in the past, been cryptic and confusing and teach them as a simplified system that makes perfect sense. Most importantly, he focuses on how to actually USE and APPLY what you learn. This is something that had been missing from my previous lessons. Russ is always patient, encouraging and committed to my success and enjoyment in playing bass. I highly recommend Russ for online bass lessons! He can definitely help you get better! If you're considering lessons, you've found your instructor. I've been with Russ for a while, and not a lesson goes by that I don't learn (or re-learn!) something. Honestly, there isn't a single facet of performance that has not been impacted; left-hand, right-hand, inflection, theory, equipment, EQ settings, reading, improvisation, jazz, pop, rock; the whole ball of wax. Give it a try; you'll be glad you did.

Russ demonstrates the best qualities in a teacher. He first asks what you want to accomplish, and then tailors his instruction to efficiently support you in achieving your bass playing goals. He has a wealth of experience both as a professional musician and as an instructor. Russ is friendly, accessible, and a great value for the cost of his lessons. I wholeheartedly recommend his services for anyone interested in beginning lessons or improving their skills.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I want to find out what the student wants to learn and then design a curriculum that will meet and satisfy their goals. My students get better!!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been playing bass guitar professionally for 40 years and teaching bass guitar professionally for 35 years.
