FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always enjoyed teaching and helping kids, but the academic envirnoment of actual school was very stifling and limiting. With all of the new rules and excess testing, 'teaching-to-the-test,' etc... it just all got to be too much. I tutored a few of my neighbors kids and really enjoyed it. Finally, decided to make it into my own business, where I could do the most good.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be careful about cheap "tutor mills." Most of these places hire many different tutors (and do not check their qualifications), and then your child will never be guaranteed to get the same one. This means each session will be like starting over with someone new. Also, many online tutoring companies use "tutors" from other countries, especially India. Sometimes there is a big language barrier (the students are not able to understand their "Indian English"). Be careful.
