About
I am a DC based portrait, art and product photographer. My career as a photographer began in the US Air Force. Settling in DC after my military service, I worked as a freelancer imaging professionals in DC, including lawyers, political figures and entertainers. Later, working for a major national museum, I had the remarkable experience of imaging indigenous people in remote regions throughout the Western Hemisphere in addition to photographing ancient, historic and contemporary works of art.
My images have been published in numerous books, magazines and websites. They have also been included in many exhibitions as contextualizing photo murals and featured in publicity campaigns. I am now retired and look forward to sharing my expertise with you!

The idea of taking any close-up shot other than a selfie is definitely not one of my favorite things to do. That all changed when I worked with Roger A. Whiteside to capture a professional headshot of me. I was accustomed to having professional portraits taken in sterile, commercial studio environments that make it hard to focus on anything other than working with a stranger in a commercial space. Roger was completely genuine and it was obvious from the introduction that he loved his work. His studio was nice and comfortable, which helped to make it a great experience. Now, the images!!! I was completely satisfied when I saw the initial images on the screen, but totally speechless when I saw the final product. I couldnt wait to send a copy to almost everyone in my contacts!!! His work is amazing and he will definitely be my go to photographer from now on.

I went to Roger a couple weeks ago to get a headshot for acting/singing jobs. Roger was very professional and personable. His studio is home based and set up very nicely. He put me at ease with set up gave good advice concerning make-up and I learned a lot about staging presence and what can make or break a photo session. His photo equipment is state of the art and finished work is stellar. I will continue to do photo work with Roger and I highly recommend his service.

Roger was engaging, professional, and did an excellent job. He provided professional photography for a head shot I needed to format on the back cover of my book, Freedom's Foundation. He took a reasonable amount of shots so that we could narrow a selection to a final five, from which we paid to have him retouch two. I needed a quick turnaround to submit the digital files to the company formatting my cover.
After making the final selections, Roger, edited for touch-up and the files were given to me immediately on a flash drive that I was to return to him. When I discovered the stick drive was not compatible with my desktop, Roger addressed the issue quickly by placing the digital files on a disk that was given to me the next day when I returned the portable memory device.
The only thing that would have improved the experience was better communication by both of us. I scheduled our meeting at nine in the morning, thinking that he would be ready for the photo shoot. He thought it was just to meet and was not set-up to shoot, requiring another twenty minute ride back to his studio five hours later. The fault could be placed on both of us and did not effect my overall experience with Roger.
I recommend his services, especially if the customer's need requires a fast turnaround. His prices were better than other professionals that had contacted me.
