Introduction: We have a lot of fun in our lessons and love to go on horsey adventures together. Lessons are one hr which includes ground horsemanship such as leading and grooming, tacking and learning about horse confirmation and tack fit, doing mounted stretches and confidence building exercise as well as riding. We have on site trails and an indoor for the cold winter months and the hot summer ones. Students learn to ride through a combination of dressage and equitation ring exercises, obstacles and games. Once a student is confident in the saddle practice rides are available for only $25 and students and boarders enjoy riding together. Rebecca has many yrs of showing, training, and instructing experience at various barns and really know what works for horses and riders. A smaller lesson program means horses get time off and stay tuned up with rides from our trainers keeping them happy and fresh. Formerly at Riley Meadows, Rebecca now is an instructor at The Sevens Ranch. Big facility with a small riding program means lots of ring space and availability. A great group of positive people who are always fun to ride and spend barn time with!

I had mostly taken non-specialized riding lessons on horses which, while they have fabulous personalities, were not terribly well-trained beyond walk/trot/canter/"what's a half-halt?" I had learned the basics, but I was completely stuck trying to go further on horses who knew as little about what I was trying to learn as I did. Deciding to take lessons with Rebecca was the best move I could have made - she's super attentive to every detail while I'm riding, she knows exactly how to explain the biomechanics (my nemesis), and learning from a lovely horse who responds instantly to correct cues has completely changed my riding in just a few months. With the added bonus that the horses I ride on my own on other farms are much happier with me, moving more freely under saddle, and clearly getting the benefit of what I'm learning with Astoria. My confidence has sky-rocketed, and I've gone from being stuck to having a blast.

My daughter has been taking riding lessons at Riley Meadows for 6 years, and we now board our horse there too. The barn is beautifully maintained with a variety of horses available for all levels. Rebecca is so knowledgeable and makes every lesson fun and safe. In addition, Riley Meadows is only about 10 mins from Hood College, Fort Detrick, and downtown Frederick. Very convenient!

After years of riding at different stables, so glad we found Riley Meadows. Great facility, horses, and instruction - just a great environment for learning to ride or improving your skills.

Rebecca is an absolute pleasure to learn from. She truly understands the challenges faced by adult riders and helps her students work through them with patience and understanding. I've learned more from her and her horse Astoria than I have from my past trainers. She makes every lesson fun and informative and keeps me looking forward to the next.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Lessons are $50 and practice rides are $25. You can find "cheaper" lessons but in this sport you really get what you pay for. Our horses are kept in training keeping them willing, happy and sharp. Lessons are safe and individualized. Anyone can call themselves a riding instructor but we have a VERY knowledgeable instructor who's actually been there and successfully done that! :)

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Students start out having private lessons with the instructor while we get to know each other and the student gets to know the horse. As the student starts to master the basics of riding many love to start riding with other students. We are always open to your input and happy to answer questions. We love to find a horse that the student really loves riding and working with and match them up!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Our instructor has many yrs successfully training horses and showing in dressage. She stays sharp with continued riding education and clinics, and has been riding, training and instructing nearly 20 yrs. Rebecca has trained with some of the top names in our sport and brings that expertise to our students, while also enjoying the much more relaxed and fun atmosphere of our barn over a big show barn.
