Introduction: Personalized Music Lessons! Dan is a skilled and compassionate teacher who brings the joy of music to students of all ages and backgrounds. As a teacher, Dan approaches each student as an individual, and tailors his lessons to each student's personal goals and requirements. A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Dan is also an accomplished performing musician and recording artist. Some of Dan's students have gone on to play professionally themselves. Dan is currently accepting beginning and intermediate students in all guitar styles, and advanced students on classical, finger-style acoustic and finger-style electric guitar. He also teaches beginning piano, voice, bass guitar, ukulele and mandolin. Dan welcomes parents of younger students to observe lessons periodically. Having parents know what their kids are learning is a great way to help keep kids motivated! Great Entertainment! Dan also performs regularly in the Washington, DC metro area. His classical guitar repertoire is well suited for weddings and other settings where an elegant musical presence is desired. He also sings and plays favorite popular songs at local venues, often performing with duo partner Mike Schirf. Dan is also an accomplished songwriter and composer. His original music catalog includes songs in a wide variety of genres, from pop tunes, country ballads, folk songs and blues to good-old rock 'n' roll. Many of Dan's songs are a blend of styles, lending them that unique flavor known as Americana. Dan also composes and arranges music for solo fingerstyle guitar.

Dan is a fantastic guitar teacher, talented songwriter and musician, and is also a wonderful person. Ive known Dan for more than two decades and learned so much from my lessons with him. He is a patient teacher with extensive experience in a range of guitar styles. In addition to Dans expert technique, I really appreciate his versatility. He knows how to play everything from classical music to classic rock, folk, etc. Dan will teach you a variety of styles, depending on your interests. He is very open minded and looks to help you learn the type of music that you are passionate about. I even brought in recordings of songs I heard along the way and no matter what it was, he could listen to song and figure out how to play it very quickly. Then, he would write down the music so I could practice it at home and would work with me to learn the song. A master of finger style guitar, Dan has lots of helpful tips to improve your practice even how to trim your fingernails to produce the smoothest sound and feel to the strings. He is patient and has a really positive, encouraging attitude that makes the lessons really fun. I also appreciate that Dan is involved in the local music scene and has experience playing solo and with a band. If you are looking for a guitar teacher whether youre a beginner or someone who has been playing for years -- I highly recommend taking lessons from Dan.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons can be 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes. Most students start with 30-minutes lessons. 30-minute lessons: $30 each 45-minute lessons: $45 each 60-minute lessons: $60 each 90-minute lessons: $90 each
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After a student (or parent) contacts me through Thumbtack, we schedule a phone call or exchange email to go over details. I answer any questions they may have, and we discuss the student's goals, such as what kind of music they want to learn, if they want to learn to read music, etc. If it seems like a good fit, then we schedule the first lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, with a major in Guitar and double minor in Piano and Voice. I've been teaching for many years, and some of my students have gone on to become professional musicians. I'm also a composer and performing musician.
