Introduction: I am a photographer who specializes in newborn, child and family photography. I have my own studio, as well as I do outside sessions, on location for families and/or children. I have tons of props, backdrops and ideas for creative and fun photos of your children.

My experience with this business has been one frustration after another. Soon after our newborn photos were taken the photographer experienced health problems, which delayed receiving edited or finished photos. We did not receive them for over three months, and therefore were unable to send out birth announcements or give mothers and Father's Day gifts. It is understandable that unexpected life events occur, and though it was disappointing not receiving any projected timelines, we were patient. It took several attempts, weeks apart, of my husband and I initiating contact to receive the edited images; frustrating as the photographer stated on her website she was taking new photos. I found it unprofessional that the photographer went into deeply personal detail regarding why the product was so late, and made me feel guilty for finally asking for a discount due to the 4 months that had passed without receiving our photos. We finally ordered our daughter's photos and I was relieved to have the transaction behind us. However when the final product was made available to download, I discovered that the quotations about babies that the photographer had added of her own volition to photo backgrounds had not come off with the watermark. When we questioned her about this, she stated that we would have to repurchase the photos to have them without the wording and was unwilling to resend them without the words. These photos that we paid for are now of no use to us. In all my experiences working with professional photographers, for engagement photos and wedding photos, etc, it had never been more straightforward than quick timelines and delivering the product we had agreed upon and paid for: edited photos of a specific subject. I will never go back to this photographer again and am so glad I didn't purchase a "growing package".

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Only hire newborn photographers that can show you photos of newborns in actual sessions, where the newborn looks relaxed and content, not with their hands covering their face and their face all smushed into blankets.
