I originally reached out to Fred for some painting work. He responded quickly and told me he could come immediately the next day, which made me happy. He showed up on time initially, and did the work. I was actually pretty happy with him, even more so that I asked him if he could paint my ceiling as well. We agreed on a price, and he told me to give him $150 for the materials for the ceiling which I did. The plan was to return the next day. The night before I confirmed everything with him. Then the day off that he’s supposed to paint my ceiling, he text me 30 minutes after he was supposed to be here he suddenly cannot make it anymore because his back hurts. I truly want to believe that he is telling the truth but something just seems fishy. It’s unfortunate that I gave him $150 upfront. Which I should not have. I’m not gonna say he does bad work, because the paint job was good. But I do question this scenario. He returned the $150, but only after I asked him
