Derek is absolutely wonderful! He completed my electrical project efficiently and professionally, and his work passed the Howard County electrical inspections with no issues at all. He is a master electrician and pulled the permits for my project, which was completed in two phases. Phase one involved installing a subpanel in the basement from the main panel in the garage, and phase two was rough-in wiring for the kitchenette circuits. Derek’s pricing was very reasonable. In fact, some of the other quotes I received were nearly double his price. I would recommend avoiding large electrical companies if possible, because their overhead often makes the work much more expensive. Derek is knowledgeable and confident in his work. I have some basic knowledge of electrical work and learned quite a bit about electrical codes when I started this project. I had several electricians and companies come out to provide estimates, and during those conversations I realized that many electricians are not very familiar with the electrical code. A couple of them even suggested solutions that seemed unsafe. Out of everyone I spoke with, only two electricians—including Derek—really demonstrated strong knowledge. He is so confident that he accepted the full payment only after his work passed county inspections. Derek is also very organized. He scheduled his work several days in advance, communicated clearly and promptly, and kept everything on track. He also cleaned up the work site after finishing the job, which I really appreciated.

So, here's what happened. I posted here mid-November completely stuck, my rental property had electrical work that was supposedly done, but my original electrician ghosted when it came time to get BGE service turned on. I mean, the rough-in passed inspection, but something clearly wasn't finished. Derek reached out within 24 hours. On a Sunday. That right there told me something. What really stood out was how he explained everything. He didn't just say "I can fix it". He walked me through the entire BGE process, what inspections were needed, and what timeline to expect. Turns out my first guy had left the job, maybe 30% done. Derek had to basically complete the whole 200-amp service upgrade, new panel, AFCI breakers, meter box, grounding, everything. Then he handled the BGE application, coordinated inspections, and saw it through until service was on January 8th. From my understanding, most electricians would've walked away or charged crazy money to clean up someone else's mess. Derek just did the work. I'm saving his contact for every property I touch. If you're dealing with BGE headaches or stuck with incomplete work, call Derek at Bear Electric.
