Jorge and his team did absolutely fantastic work converting our downstairs into a bedroom with standard closet, as well as taking care of some other things in the house. Very detailed, precise, with lots of care. His experience was evident. Very kind and flexible as well. He takes his time and makes sure everything is fine-tuned, so if you aren’t in a rush, he is the perfect contractor for you!

I have been working with Smart Hammer, LLC for almost 25 years. I use them for all my clients. They are absolutely terrific. Every single time I have sent out other bids, Smart Hammer has come in with the most fair, thorough, and sensible way to handle the problem. Jorge Rojas, the owner, is a very special person who will take the utmost care to do the job right. My only mini-issue is that he is such a nice guy and has such a big heart that sometimes he does not get to me on time because the client (or clients) he is seeing before ask him to do "one more thing" for them. He can never say "no" and he always tries to make everyone happy. So when he budgets an hour for a job, it can easily turn into two. He does call to let you know he'll be delayed but after 25 years, I think this is a pretty minor issue. His work is outstanding and he pays attention to detail. And he is totally trustworthy. On more than one occasion, when he is doing some disruptive like painting the interior of the house or staining the floors, I have left him alone in our home when we were traveling outside the country. (Pre-Covid days to be sure!) Both my husband and I work at home and we hate workmen in the house and we trust Jorge so much that we allow him to work when he are gone. But I can assure you, that if you are at home, he is meticulous in cleaning up each night when he leaves and he won't be in your way if you have him there when you are around. He has a degree in engineering from the University of Bolivia but went into contracting when he came to his country a quarter of a century ago. I can't say enough wonderful things about him or his work!

Smart-Hammer was great to work with. We had a water penetration problem and over the course of five+ years we attempted to remediate it, including a failed French drain and a retaining wall/regrade of the opposite side. Jorge came to evaluate our property right at the appointed time and immediately identified the cause of our issue. The original construction of the garage was not correct and was missing a concrete curb on top of the slab which the wall should have been built on. It was encouraging to hear his assessment, as it matched the assessment of an independent architect as well. Jorge and the Smart-Hammer team provided me two quotes which he was confident would resolve the issue. One was to dig a trench and apply a waterproof membrane (which he mentioned would be a good solution). The other was to correct the construction by cutting the wall, building a concrete curb, and sealing the opposite side with waterproofing material (which he considered the best option). The first quote was the same as other quotes I had received. However the quote to rebuild the wall was far less expensive than anticipated (the other projects we had done in the past cost the same if not more). If we were going to go through the process, we might as well have it done right. We agreed to have him rebuild the wall which only took three days (weather did disrupt their schedule). The team showed up right on time (if not a few minutes earlier) and got straight to work. They were tidy and cleaned up as they were working. I was thoroughly surprised at their speedy performance, and at how detail oriented they were. The wall looks great and they completed the task excellently. Fortunately/unfortunately we haven’t had heavy rain to confirm that the issue was resolved until just recently. Finally, I can say that we’re not getting any water in the garage. The concrete blocks are dry and I don’t have to worry about the wood sill plate in the house rotting any further. I really wish that I had known about Smart-Hammer before going through all our previous projects to have it corrected earlier and save money in the long run. Thank you, Smart-Hammer for knocking this project out of the park and giving me peace of mind for years to come.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It begins with the client reaching out to schedule a free consultation for the project they'd like to have done. We meet at the scheduled location and we walk through the site while the client explains all the work they would like to do. From there, our company will create an estimate (Materials and Labor Costs) of how much the project will cost. All estimates are free and come at no charge. After the client receives our estimate, they then decide whether or not to go through with the project.
