I’m Russian concert classical pianist and a former Associate Professor at Sobinoff State Conservatory in Russia. I have won numerous international piano competitions in Europe and Russia, I’m holding DMA and M.M. in piano performance and pedagogy from Sobinoff State Conservatory, the third oldest Conservatory in Russia. From 2003 till 2010 was teaching professional pianists in Russia and Hong Kong at Hong Kong Piano Association. Since 2010 I’m in the USA. Music is my passion and I love sharing my life-long love to classical music with my students. My studio offers private piano and music theory lessons in Potomac, MD. The monthly rate 30, 45, 60, or 90-minute lessons. I believe that everyone - kids and adults - should learn to play piano. Favorite tunes, chords, hands coordination - don’t it look simple? Piano playing is a great brain booster, discipline your mind and will, stress relief, and JOY that can make us happy and successful in life. My daughter started piano last year in March and she is very fortunate to have Dr. Swensen as her teacher for over a year. Now that we have resumed in-person classes, my daughter is even more excited. Elena is a superb pianist — but an equally superb teacher judging by my daughter’s progress. She is demanding but gentle. A true professional who can not only teach technique, but also the intricacy and richness of music even to a relatively young child.

I am an Asian parent. Since my daughter's previous piano teacher moved away, my friend recommended Mrs. Swensen to me. My daughter has been learning piano with Mrs. Swensen for more than a year. She made tremendous progress and completed the Royal Conservatory Level 4 Exam with honors last summer. As a parent, I like having a piano teacher who has a good balance between helping the kids move forward as well as keeping their interest. Mrs. Swensen is that kind of teacher. Moreover, her Russian heritage of a detail-oriented style not only builds a solid technical foundation for my daughter, but also helps her to express more in her playing.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former Associate Professor of Saratov Sobinoff Conservatory in Russia. I am a winner of many international piano competitions in Russia and Europe. I have been teaching professionals in Hong Kong in 2008. Here in US I teach all level students of all ages. Some of them are so good that they play in international piano competitions. My goal is to teach everyone who wants to enjoy playing piano and explore the world of music with joy. It makes me happy!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started teaching right after graduating from conservatory. I got an Artist Diploma after my Master’s Degree. I’ve been teaching professional pianists since 2003. Now I teach kids as well.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I’m a concert pianist from Russia, I enjoyed playing concerts in Europe, China and USA. I love to to play with my violinist partner. All my students are welcome to the concerts every year in Bethesda Steinway Gallery.
