Swedish massage concentrates on the superficial layers of the tissue. It helps with circulation, creates relaxation, and reduces stress. Deep-tissue massage is more focused work on the muscles using compressions, cross-fiber friction, and glides. Deep-tissue work concentrates on the deeper layers of the tissue that may have knots or tension. I use Swedish and deep-tissue together in a full-body massage. In hot stone massage, hot basalt stones are used to encourage blood flow throughout the body and promote healing. Hot stones massage therapy is a great way to warm the tissue and allow the massage therapist to get to the deeper layers of the tissue more easily. It can provide relief from sore or tight muscles, and it can reduce pain, stress, and tension in the body.
