About
I provide individual and small group personal training at two locations in Maryland (Takoma Park and Cabin John) and can also travel to your home or office depending on schedule and location. I am committed to educating my clients and providing customized training programs that help each person move better, feel better and own their own accomplishments. My training clients range in age from early 20s to late 80s and started training at a variety of fitness levels. Taking the first step can be the hardest part. I congratulate you on doing that. I'm here to help you develop and take the next steps!

Mary is a great trainer. My father loves working with her. My father does not do much other movement so she has been invaluable in getting him active.

Several months ago, I started training with Mary Duke on a weekly basis. The experience has been thoroughly satisfactory. I have found her to be extremely knowledgable, experienced, insightful and caring. Our focus has been on increasing my strength, flexibility and balance, and we both feel that I have made significant progress in all areas. I have had competent personal trainers in the past, but Mary Duke's vast experience and attention to detail set her apart from the rest.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Typically I charge $85/hour for training sessions at MAD Fitness in Takoma Park or at your home or workplace nearby. If there is more significant travel involved, we would need to discuss a possible additional fee for that time.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Usually we will talk on the phone first so we can talk more in depth about your training goals and see if it looks like we might be a good fit to work together. Then I would send you some paperwork to complete. Sometimes, depending on your health status, I might ask you to get permission from your doctor and/or guidance re: specifics regarding exercise before we begin training. Once everything is completed, we would schedule your first training session. The first few sessions are usually a combination of assessment and exercise as we work together to build a fitness program that will include training sessions and also quite possibly exercise on your own or in classes to supplement/build on what we are doing together.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). In addition to this, I participate regularly in continuing education programs to enhance my skills. Outside of my work as a personal trainer, I have a background in social work and experiential education. I have found that these experiences have been helpful in shaping how I work and think as a trainer.
