Debbie is the best! From the first second she makes you feel like you belong. Great guidance with some humor incorporated! This is the first time I take voice lessons and couldn't ask for a better experience!Oct 7, 2020Verified
I am a guitar player with professional experience who, out of shyness and performance anxiety, has never tried singing. However, in recent years, I’ve desperately longed to sing along with my guitar, but every attempt (performed only in private confines devoid of other ears) was thwarted by, well, lousy and painful execution. I recorded myself and then listened to a cacophony of nasal timbre with annoying sharps and flats and a voice that went as quickly as it came. And so I sought expert help and found Debbie Kirkland. Under Debbie’s expert coaching in just over 6 weeks, I’ve discovered that I really can sing. I certainly have gained confidence with the knowing that my potential is being reared into unequivocal certainty. I may not yet be comfortable singing at a venue, but I know that I will soon enough. Perhaps in a month or two; perhaps even now. Debbie is showing me the essentials necessary for great singing and in a way that those fundamentals are quickly becoming my second nature. She instills proper breathing and correct posture so my lungs expand effortlessly; she instills proper pitch with aural drills on her piano and she instills proper tone. All of this cannot be learned by guidelines on a book or video --- Debbie is there to render improvement and proficiency by focusing on unique strengths and weaknesses. And with her individualistic attention and encouragement, she fosters my confidence. I shall stay with Debbie for a long time.Jun 21, 2019Verified
Debbie was incredibly welcoming, making me feel like we’ve known each other for years. It is evident that she’s invested many years into her expertise and I look forward to future lessons!Jun 18, 2019Verified
She’s much more than a vocal coach! The lessons I receive at The Singer Studio, and my time spent learning are so supplemental and invaluable, I would refer/recommend to any one looking to improve their vocal skills.Jun 18, 2019Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My pricing varies depending on the amount of time. My lessons can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour depending on the student's needs and age. Thumbtack has quoted incorrect pricing so please contact me for actual price.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When a new student comes for the first time I explain the basic fundamentals of singing. I answer any questions they may have and then we start breathing and vocalise exercises.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I attended the Duke Ellington High School for Performing & Visual Arts. I studied Classical voice at Kalamazoo College. I obtained a degree in Classical Vocal Music Performance from The University of MD .
