Introduction: I will help you identify, clarify, demystify, simplify, rectify or edify your writing project. Does your writing sound like you or an imitation of ... who? Are your words getting in the way of what you mean to say? Do you know what you want to convey, or did you get lost along the way? Trash or treasure? First, we will decide, then, together we will trim, enhance, revamp, and polish.
My books were published by HarperCollins and turned into Interactive Storybook Apps by Auryn, Inc/Stories Alive. Feature articles I wrote for the Washington Post/BookWorld were based on interviews I conducted of over 100 celebrities. Published by major mainstream companies, I have also been represented by top New York Literary Agencies. Additionally, I have many years of experience as a Writing Coach for both published and novice writers. Contact me, and together we will coax your words into leaping and singing across the pages of your project.
I love writing, stories, words and the English language. One job I enjoy is helping students craft personal statements for school applications. I find it great fun to interact with young people now that my children are grown. My son recently graduated from Stanford University, and my daughter is a linguist and mother of 3 adorable and hilarious little boys with another on the way!
I also love to do deep editing of any kind of writing. I rarely use computer generated editing programs that offer superficial corrections in favor of a fast turn-around. I prefer to read a manuscript myself to uncover the less obvious errors of substance including consistency of point of view, issues of structure and structural design, appropriateness of diction, or word choice, and redundancies. I look for clarity, whether the intended audience is addressed in the correct tone and if coded language will make sense to the reader. With creative writing I ask, will the audience trust the narrator? Has the narrator managed to convince the reader to "suspend disbelief?"
When working with customers I am happy to try to tailor what I do to a budget that is affordable. Sometimes this means breaking up my suggestions into discreet sections we will tackle over time. I always provide ideas for where the client might find aids for self-help.
