FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
This is not my day job so I am very fair with my time tracking and hourly rates. I don't just charge minimum flat hourly rates of $99/hour or more like some of the big box store services like Geek Squad. I typically charge around $50/hour for most of my services. However, I am very fair with my time tracking. For example: if I'm installing and configuring software and I'm just sitting around waiting for a process to complete I don't necessarily count all my time. Or if my time involved to meet my commitment is going to cost as much or more than the computer or device I'm working on I'm not going to charge someone as much or more than what they could replace it for.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am continually learning in my field. It's the only way to survive and stay relevant with one of the fastest changing industries around. I use internet resources more than any other but also partake in professional training opportunites, user groups and network regularly with peers.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was fortunate enough to hold a part-time microcomputer technician position in the IT department at Saint Joseph's College of Maine while I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I gained a lot of experience in everything from PC maintenance to server and network administration and knew exactly what I wanted to do for a living well before I graduated with my degree. The rest is history as they say.
