Introduction: I teach piano using the Simply Music method out of Australia. This an exciting playing-based approach where students start playing great sounding music from the first lesson! Nothing is more thrilling for me than to help others of all ages to discover the joy of playing piano.

Alex comes to my home one day a week after school to provide piano lessons to my son. He is teaching my son a completely different way than I have ever seen taught. My son stays engaged and has been able to memorize and perform over 20 songs in just the first six months. My son has ADD and some days he does better than others. Alex always meets my son where is on that day and works with him to do his best at each lesson. We are a busy family and Alex is always flexible and great at communicating any changes that may occur in his or our schedule.

My 11 year old daughter has been taking lessons for the past year and a half and I can see the improvement already. Alex Duncan has been patient with her, and my daughter likes playing the piano. Alex moves his teaching style to a program called “Simply Music Piano” which is a new-age approach to learning piano that has my daughter playing recognizable songs within one month. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge a monthly tuition of $110, whether there are four lessons for that month or five. Tuition for shared lessons is $100.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer a free introductory session where I describe the Simply Music method and the results that can be expected from the program. I also discuss requirements for success, tuition and other policies.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played piano since the age of seven. I have studied jazz piano with the late Matt Michaels of Wayne State University, Mr. Tad Weed of Ann Arbor, and Mr. Dave Frank of the Dave Frank School of Music in Manhattan. I am currently studying with Mr. Dan Delaney of Phoenix, Arizona. As a pianist, I have played numerous weddings as well as receptions, parties and restaurants. I have played piano and keyboards at Kensington Community Church in Troy since 1993. In recent years, I have played regularly at First United Methodist Church of Birmingham and Venture Church in Hartland. I completed foundational training for Simply Music in November of 2015 and I am currently pursuing advanced training.
