Introduction: Hi!
My name is Neil A. Patterson.
I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years. I perform in a nationally touring Detroit band in which I play lead guitar and sing. I have played and continue to play hundreds upon hundreds of shows all across the country.
I'm currently looking to gather students from beginner to immediate to teach guitar to. I can teach many styles, including metal, blues, jazz, rock, and funk. I am well-versed in all of these as well as in music theory. I am not a traditional teacher as in I don't teach how to read notes. I will concentrate on chords, scale patterns and tabs to get you playing the way you want to play in a streamlined fashion.
It is required that you have the following:
- a guitar (electric or acoustic)
- a practice amp (if learning on the electric)
- a tuner (with a microphone if playing acoustic)
- a blank tablature manuscript book
- a desire to learn
My rate is $25 a half hour and $40 an hour. However, if the lesson goes over, I will stay until I feel that progress has been made. These rates might be negotiated if a lot of travel is involved.
I will come to you! I have a very flexible schedule and will do what it takes to teach you or your child the beauty of guitar.

Neil was a fantastic instructor. I took more intermediate level lessons from him for about 6 months and found him to be very patient and answers questions well. I highly recommend him.

Neil gave me lessons for about a year and I learned so much from him! He's extremely talented and was an awesome teacher. He taught me the basics, chords, scales, modes etc. And would work with me on what I wanted to learn. He taught me lots of cool licks and tricks too. I think the great thing is it wasn't just exercises all the time. We would freestyle jam to get comfortable with things I'd learned, taking turns on rhythm and lead. I would recommend Neil to anyone no matter their experience level!

I had a very limited background in guitar when I started taking lessons with Neil. I was mostly self taught but understood theory and Mr. Patterson put into words what I knew and put me in the direction to improve myself (particularly in line improvisation). Great guitarist, great dude.

Neil Patterson provided me with a guitar lesson that was very easy to understand, had a very relaxed feel, and gave me things to work on that greatly improved my playing.
