Voice Lessons You don't have to have any previous training to learn how to sing using good technique. Voice lessons help you develop more self-confidence and a voice that makes a beautiful sound that you will love. The technique that you will learn is the foundation for singing any genre or style of music from Bach to Pop to Broadway. Progressive vocal exercises will help you develop a stronger voice. The exercises are fun to do and very effective. Students make progress beginning with the first lesson. You will develop the unique quality of your voice and learn how to be comfortable and completely natural on stage, performing in a way that helps you make an emotional connection with the audience. You learn how to take a deep easy natural breath that engages your whole body to provide support for your voice and help your voice resonate naturally. As your voice develops you will build a repertoire of music that you like to sing in any genre or style that you like. Years of experience as the director of the Actors Alliance Theatre, a professional theatre company, and the Académie des Beaux-Arts, a performing arts school, sets me apart as a voice teacher with experience as a theater director. Singers learn how to prepare for auditions, move on the stage and feel completely natural and confident when you perform. The focus is on learning how to tell the story of the song in a way that is natural, authentic and believable and make artistic choices that help you convey emotion in a way that touches the hearts of those that listen. For advanced students and experienced professional singers, intensive vocal coaching focuses on performing with artistry, making stylistic choices that are right for you; how to phrase a lyric or color the tone of a note to showcase your talent in the most effective way. Helping singers of all skill levels develop your voice, your artistry, the ability to connect emotionally with the audience and feel completely natural when you sing is at the heart of what I teach.

Taking voice lessons was something I wanted to do for a very long time but was too nervous and anxious at the thought of having to sing in front of someone. Ms. Helen has completely removed that fear. She never speaks negatively and is so encouraging, getting just as excited as I do when I hit a note or how far I’m progressing. I can tell the techniques she uses with me are catered to my specific way of learning and are personalized to me. Our lessons feel like I am spending time with a friend and I truly feel that she not only cares about teaching me, but also about me as a person. If I could give 10 stars I would.

My 11 year old started vocal lessons 4 weeks ago and she absolutely loves it. It started out as just learning to sing for an audition but she is learning more than she could imagine and really enjoys singing. Helen is so patient with her and does a fantastic job in teaching. I cannot say enough good things about her.

Helen is a wonderful teacher. She is very patient and understanding, and her methods work wonders. I'll admit that sometimes during our lessons I feel a little silly doing the exercises she instructs me to do, but then when applying them during my practice time outside of lessons, there are very clear and positive results. I have a higher success rate of hitting high notes, my voice doesn't waver as much, and I can hold notes for a longer period. She has also been helping me to enunciate which adds a noticeable quality increase in my originals, and it's fun to listen to popular music, observing moments when they *don't* enunciate. I live half an hour away, but Helen is worth both the drive and every penny.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Some beginning students start with a 25-minute lesson. As students progress a 45-minute lesson gives us more time to work on new music.. More advanced students want a lesson period of 60 minutes. The charge for a 30-minute lesson is $30.00. The charge for a 45-minute lesson is $45.00 The charge for a 60-minute lesson is 50.00 Payments are accepted in cash, by check or with a credit card. Some beginning students and most young singers start with a 30-minute lesson. As they make progress, a 45-minute lesson provides more time to work on technique and new music.. Choosing a voice teacher that is right for you is an important decision. If you are interested in taking voice lessons make an appointment for a free 30-minute consultation that gives us an opportunity to meet and get to know each other. It has to be a good fit for both of us. There is no charge this first 30-minute session where you will have an opportunity to more about what voice lessons are like and ask any questions you may have.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Make an appointment for a free 30-minute lesson and consultation that gives you a chance to learn more about what voice lessons are like. If you want to continue, you can have your first lesson that day or make arrangements for a regular appointment at that time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained in Voice Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I studied with the internationally celebrated Mezzo-Soprano, Marie Simmelink-Kraft who performed with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and other symphony Orchestras throughout the world. I also hold a degree from Case Western Reserve University where I studied art and music theory and was in many theatre productions. My professional experience includes singing with a professional Chorale that performed with the Cleveland Symphony and performances as a soloist with choirs in Ohio and Michigan. In 1978 I founded and directed the Academie des Beaux-Arts, a performing arts school and the Actors Alliance Theater, a professional theater company that gave young performers a chance to work with professional actors. This combination of skills in voice performance and theater sets me apart as a teacher with professional theater experience who can help students develop their voice and the ability to perform with a natural artistry that captures an audience.
