Howell Clock Shop

About Howell Clock Shop

I have been repairing clocks since 1991, and am a true connoisseur of all antique time pieces especially for antique clocks built before 1950. It is truly rewarding to be able to take a mechanical device that is over 100 years old, and refurbish it back to running condition to enhance its longevity. In addition to my service department, I also offer antique clocks for sale, so you can enjoy these classic treasures in your own home. Howell Clock Shop offers full clock repair services for modern-day clocks, and we specialize in antique clock restorations. We are able to do any restoration on your timepiece.

We service all of Southern Michigan. We do house/office calls for floor and larger wall clocks. We will pick up your wall and mantle for a nominal fee.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Question the owner of the company if they do complete movement dis-assembly with ultrasonic cleaning.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Make sure they use press in bushings and not screw in bushings. The press in require more skill and preserve the original quality of the mechanical movement. If a clock is over 40 years old, you do not want to replace the mechanical movement instead of repairing it. If you replace it, you destroy any value that the antique timepiece has.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you offer a warranty, if so, what is it and for how long? How many years of experience do you have? Is you work done in house, or is it farmed out?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. If you are purchasing a clock from a store other than us, please inquire with them about their service department.
