About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I am an educator by background and love to work with all ages of family members. My background in biology, and many years of contact with wolf research give me more insights into your dog's behavior. I'm a skilled positve trainer with years of experience but I am always learning new things to make my training even better. I've had lots of experience working with fearful dogs, boisterous dogs and dogs that were driving their owners crazy. I work with each dog and each family as individuals.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy getting to know both people and their dogs. Dog training is not a one-size-fits-all business. Each family and each dog has it's own circumstances, gifts and sensitivities. My job is to help guide and problem solve in each new environment. Dog training takes lots of empathy, thinking outside of the box and a big dose of humor. My clients and their dogs become my friends.

I loved working with Beth. She is very in tune with the dog and very responsive to its needs. It is apparent that she really enjoys dogs and bringing out the best in them. She is calm and our puppy responded to her immediately. I even felt more confident when she was here teaching the puppy and ME.

I've had one visit with Beth but she is a lifesaver!! I was at my wits end with my young puppy but I want to make this work and get passed the puppy stage. Beth spent time explaining why my pup was doing some of the things she was, told me how to deal with them, answered all my questions and most importantly made me feel so much better about having my dog. She managed to get my mouthy pup to cooperate and I see the glimmer of hope. I look forward to the rest of our training! Beth knows what she's doing and does a great job putting an owner (especially a new one) at ease.

    Absolutely the best!
Truly amazing! Within minutes of entering our house for the first time Beth had our puppy intent and listening to her. She tailored Sadie's training specifically to her, giving us tons of advise, and a clear path to take to keep our dog learning as she grows. After Beth left at that first visit, Sadie laid on the rug at the front door waiting for her to come back. That says it all!

    Dog/ dog aggression training
Our family recently moved to Novi MI from Sri Lanka with our "village dog" Charlie. Charlie had extreme dog/ dog aggression issues and walking her was very difficult and dangerous. (We live in a dog dense neighborhood) When Beth contacted us we found out she too had raised a "village dog"! (Beth's daughter had brought the dog back From Africa. ) Beth was knowledgeable about the breed. She understood and could relate to the many challenges we faced training Charlie- most importantly she knew how to help both Charlie (and her family) learn and apply positive techniques to manage and gradually decrease undesirable behaviors. Beth has extensive experience training dogs and also brings along a wealth of knowledge due to her background in Biology and her work with Wolves. She is a highly experienced, competent, caring and compassionate trainer. We are so happy with Charlie's progress. Beth has also helped us, Charlies family understand our dog, her behaviors and taught us how to be better parents to Charlie - Charlie's also learnt some new tricks! Thanks Beth

Beth is an excellent down to earth teacher. In our first session we learned many techniques to calm down our pre-rescue dog Ruby and to have her obey commands. This week we are following written instructions from Beth to continue to train Ruby and our selves. In our first session, through Beth's help, our life with Ruby is so much better. Beth gave us a book she wrote on dog training and I have been eagerly reading it. It is a great reference book to help us continue training.

We were having some trouble with our dog Dooley (Miniature Schnauzer). He, in the past had shown signs of aggression towards people (mainly small children). I found Beth through an online search and we had arranged an in-home visit. I am a strong believer in ‘Positive Dog Training’ and it was evident that Beth was more than qualified. Beth was very knowledgeable and caring towards Dooley. Her patients with us was extremely helpful. After working with Beth and reading her book we have been able to build up Dooley’s confidence and better understand his needs through being more aware of his signs of stress or discomfort. We have not had a problem with him since. My wife, Dooley and I would recommend Beth! Thank you Beth, Bryan C.

Beth came to our home and helped us work with our crazy, newly-adopted Cattle-dog mix. Her methods are positive and effective. Our dog, Lucy, responded quickly and I was most impressed with Beth's individualizing for our specific needs. Beth taught us so much that now we can work with Lucy ourselves, and she LOVES our training sessions because they are fun! Beth's book is an outstanding reference, too.

I have known Beth for many years. I always proudly describe her as, "My friend, the biologist," but she is so much more than that: A compassionate, intuitive trainer, a compelling and funny speaker, a generous, intelligent entrepreneur. She seems to have boundless energy and the ability to change and adapt to all types of circumstances. I am proud to know her.

Beth is very talented at reading dogs and working with their personality types. She makes the training easy for the person to understand and follow too, so you can reinforce what she teaches the dog on your own. My dog has fear issues that Beth was able to help alleviate. I agree with Beth's philosophy that a dog and his/her person should be partners, not one dominating the other.

I found Beth's positive training methods to be just that POSITIVE. I started with Beth to help teach me how to train my labs when they were about 10 weeks. They took to the postive method so easily and it is much more satisfying on the human too compared to the old school of scolding, yanking and smacking. I've taken my dogs into public areas to get them socialized and people will come up to me and tell me how well behaved they are. Beth gives you the tools and insight to a well behaved dog. I highly recommend her.

Beth's training methods made the world of difference in our relationship with our puppy. Training became fun for both dog and owners. We purchased several copies of Beth's book as gifts for family and friends who live out of the area, because we thought their dogs would appreciate enlightened owners as much as ours does!
