About
Hi! I’m Savannah, a professional flutist and dedicated flute teacher with a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Bowling Green State University. I have years of experience teaching students of all ages and experience levels, from beginners learning their first notes to more advanced students preparing for auditions, performances, and competitions. I’ve taught private lessons as well as students in elementary, middle, and high school music programs, and I love helping students build both their musical skills and their confidence. Alongside teaching, I remain active as a professional flutist. I currently perform as a substitute flutist with the Western Piedmont Symphony and was selected to participate in the 2026 Trentino Music Festival in Italy, where I performed as part of the festival’s orchestra program. I have also participated in major flute events including the National Flute Association Convention, CanAmerican Flute Symposium, and DM Flute Studio Summer Intensive. I have had the opportunity to study with and participate in masterclasses with leading flutists including Trudy Kane, Marianne Gedigian, Christina Jennings, Gareth Davies, Demarre McGill, and Jim Walker. These professional experiences allow me to bring current performance knowledge and firsthand experience into my teaching. My teaching approach is personalized to each student. I believe every musician learns differently, so I tailor lessons to your goals, interests, and experience level. Whether you’re picking up the flute for the first time, looking to improve your technique, preparing for an audition, or simply wanting to enjoy playing more, I’ll help you build a strong foundation while keeping lessons engaging and encouraging. As a professional performer, I also bring firsthand experience with auditions, recitals, orchestral playing, and performance preparation. I’m passionate about helping students not only become better flutists, but also become more confident and expressive musicians. Outside of music, I’m a huge coffee lover, puzzle enthusiast, and proud cat mom to Kiki and Milo. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your musical goals!

I cannot recommend Ms. Sherman highly enough. From the very first lesson, her inspirational teaching style has instilled in me a newfound passion and motivation for playing the flute. Each lesson is meticulously tailored to my unique needs, ensuring that every aspect of my development as a musician is addressed. One of the most remarkable attributes of Savannah's teaching style is the balanced environment she creates. I consistently feel both nurtured and challenged during our sessions, a testament to her exceptional ability to gauge my capabilities and push me towards new milestones. The attention to detail in her instruction is truly unparalleled. It's evident that she takes the time to understand my strengths, weaknesses, and learning style, adjusting her teaching approach accordingly. This level of personalization has allowed me to improve at a pace I didn't think was possible. Furthermore, I was initially unsure about the effectiveness of online lessons. However, any and all doubts were swiftly put to rest. The online lessons are highly efficient, proving to be just as, if not more, beneficial than in-person sessions. The convenience of learning from home combined with her adept use of digital resources has genuinely enhanced my learning experience.

I've been learning with Savannah for a quite a while now, and I cannot recommend her enough! I usually work on higher-level pieces and solos with her, and she always knows how to help me improve in places where I need help. Savannah knows a lot of different techniques and teaches me these strategies so that I can use them on my own time when I practice. I've definitely seen an improvement in my playing, performance, and practice since I've started learning from Savannah!
