FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The best way I have found to stay on top of changes is to research new products, suppliers and manufactures. I am constantly buying books on flooring, tile, home improvement and basic skills. I also go to the vendors or suppliers websites and read about the new products and how they apply to me. I am happy if I read a book and learn just one new thing, that makes my job easier or allows me to complete a job in a timely manor.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got into floor really by nessesity. I worked at a flooring company when i was 18. Sometimes the installers would be short handed and I would go and help them. I moved on to a parts job after a year or so at the flooring company. In 2001 I decided to build a house for our family. I was still employed at the same parts company, but had moved on and up to the central office in Grand Rapids. I still did small flooring jobs on the side, usually just for friends and family. In 2005 I parted ways with the parts company and wasn't sure where I was going to go. I really loved building my home, so I jumped into the construction trade head first and here I am.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
My most common job are installing carpet and doing custom showers and bathrooms.
