- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I usually quote tutoring by the hour. The rate depends on the subject, the distance I have to travel, frequency of sessions, and needs of the student. Other jobs (proofreading, editing, etc.) are usually a fixed price depending on the job.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I establish rapport with a potential client. As I have an outgoing personality and truly love what I do, rapport and comfort usually come easily. I assure the potential client (and/or parents) that I will meet their needs to the best of my ability. In addition, in the first few discussions, I carefully assess the task at hand, so I can plan a customized program.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University. Twelve years of teaching experience and twenty years of successful tutoring experience gives me a very strong foundation of skills and strategies. Since I have tutored all ages from kindergarten through adult in math, Reading, Writing, and ESL, I have many resources that I can use. My editing skills have been honed by many years of education and experience.
