What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Each project is different and so is it difficult to have a flat rate that covers everything. Things like quantity, turn around time, how complex it is, if it needs to be shipped to you, the number of revisions needed, etc all impact the price. And of course 24-48 hour turn around time will incur rush charges.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The process starts with the client filling out the project exploration worksheet. I provide them with a quote that is tailored specifically to their needs. Once expectations & deadlines have been agreed upon I generally require 50% down to start work. Once ready I email proofs in pdf format. The client then responds with any needed changes or their approval. Once approved I then deliver the files & final invoice which is due upon delivery of the files.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a major in Graphic Design & a minor in Jewelry & Metal Smithing.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Art is something I've always had a passion for. To me, art is my life. I have been making art in some form or another since I was old enough to hold a pencil. College allowed me to pursue it in a digital format & I obtained a degree in the process. :)
What types of customers have you worked with?
All types: corporations, small businesses, non-profits & individuals. Projects such as: business cards, logo design, flyers, brochures, banners, signs, web banners & web based ads, custom email templates, t-shirt designs & stickers.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently completed a redesign of a pair of banner stands for a client. He wanted to keep the format similar to the previous design while adding new photos to showcase his company's new projects & to tweak some of the verbiage. After a series of proofs and some revisions, the files were ready to go to print. From start of the project to delivery of the files to the printer was about 4 days time.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be clear about what you need when requesting a quote. List the quantity, type of job, how many people will have input on this job, what your goals & expectations are, target completion date, who your audience is, who your competitors are and any questions or concerns for this project. All of this information helps me give you a more accurate quote.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Customers often want to know how to get their logo, brochure, banner, etc to look the same no matter which printer they use. The only way to get the same color every time is to use Pantone colors. Pantone colors are mixed from the same formula no matter which printer you use, therefore ensuring color consistency.
