About

Welcome to Fan Zhang Piano! I am located in Saline Michigan, teaching remotely and locally at my home studio. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students of all ages and levels. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan, and previously was on the faculty of Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio from 2016 to 2022. I worked as a teaching assistant at both the University of Michigan and Indiana University from 2010 to 2016. Over the years, I had extensive study and training of piano pedagogy and gained valuable teaching experience. I work with students at a variety of ages, abilities and levels in private lessons, group classes, student recitals and local music programs and competitions. Past students have won state and local competitions, achieved high scores in various music programs, such as SAT Michigan, ABRSM, National Federation Music Club and RCM. Flexible scheduling of classes worked well for our family. Our 6 year old had a bit of frustration at first when she couldn't quite grasp playing at first. After noting this with the instructor, she made adjustments that helped my daughter get back to love playing piano, again.

I have been taking piano lessons with Fan for more than 4 months and I am really enjoying it. Fan is an amazing instructor. She is patient and not only did she teach me the basic practice songs but also the popular song that I was really interested in. She helps me make great progress and I am really enjoying the lessons with her!

My daughter has been playing piano for 5 years, this last one with Fan. We had been through 3 other teachers before we found Fan a year ago. My daughter was losing interest in piano and getting her to practice was extremely difficult. All of that changed when she started with Fan. She loves piano now and will practice without being asked to. Fan challenged my daughter, assigning her music that at first would seem above her level. But with Fan's confidence in my daughter and her guidance and encouragement my daughter has made incredible progress in the past year. I feel very fortunate that we found Fan.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I contact prospect students and students parents to schedule a FREE consultive session through message, email or phone. At the consultive session, I learn about the student and answer any questions they might have.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 18 years of teaching experience and extensive study of piano pedagogy and teaching. Students of mine from the past were competition winners, and achieved high marks on various certificate programs. I have previously been on the faculty at Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, OH from 2016 to 2022, teaching private lessons, keyboard ensemble, class piano, piano pedagogy and internship, piano chamber literature. From 2010 to 2016, I worked as a Graduate Student Instructor / Assistant Instructor at the University of Michigan and at Indiana University. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from University of Michigan; Master of Music in Piano Performance from Indiana University; Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Capital University.
