Introduction: Not all dog trainers are the same - some are good with dogs and not great at teaching their owners. We love people just as much as dogs, so we’ll talk together with you to come up with a plan together that fits your life and your preferences. You can come to us for group classes or private training, and we can even give you a huge head start with our ‘stay and train’ programs where your dog stays in a home environment for the initial training, which saves you from having to do the hardest part! Whether you need help with some of your dog’s behaviors, or your dog is just plain refusing to listen to you, that’s why we’re here. We know what it’s like and we’d love to help you just as we’ve helped so many others with dog training in the Metro Detroit area. Our Trainers love working with dogs and puppies every day! They feel every day is different and exciting – new dogs, new people, new places, new behaviors to train.

I don't even have words for how fantastic Clever Canine is. I am so incredibly grateful to them, they've changed everything about the way I communicate with my dogs. I have three big pups, all 3 or younger, and each with A LOT of personality. Mandy, Lizzie, and Emma had my deaf Australian Shepherd (who used to be afraid of people) eating out of their hand within minutes, even letting Emma scratch him on the head. All three are incredibly knowledgeable on obedience training, and my Anatolian Shepherd and Lab are jumping out of the car to see them. Mandy is an expert, and a wealth of knowledge for anyone who wants to learn. She goes out of her way to make scheduling work, takes a sincere interest in getting to know your dogs, and takes the time to create a plan that will work for YOU, no cookie cutter answers. They are even willing to take dogs into their own home for stay and train, then carefully go through all of the new commands and routines your dog has become accustomed to once they're done. I am confident she can solve any problem I'm having, including some dog aggression to others not in the pack. Emma is an Aussie whisperer, I COULD NOT believe he was sitting at her feet and looking her in the eyes within a few minutes of walking in the door. Lizzie is master of agility training, in just one session she had my dog through half of the obstacles. These are professionals, people, with kind hearts and sincere resolve to help you fix whatever problem you may have, for both you and your dog. The service they provide is unparalleled, and I couldn't be happier I went with my instincts on a family-run business instead of a chain. I will be working with them as long as I have any questions (they also do nose work and other sports). I am so, so grateful to have found Clever Canine. They saved my sanity with my dogs and are helping us ENJOY each other's company while constantly learning and advancing. Thank you so much for your time, team. I recommend them to everyone I know.

We have just begun puppy training but came away knowing this was a very positive experience for both the dogs and their owners. They let the puppies teach each other. What a concept! Amazing how well that works. There are several trainers around to help direct and instruct. We definitely recommend Clever Canine Dog Training.

My mini Aussie Toboe is just starting out with a combined agility/obedience menu of packaged lessons. The amount of time, hands on instruction, and quality facilities make Clever Canine an amazing value in terms of price. The lessons are fun, engaging, goal-oriented, and highly tailored for your specific needs. No more feeling like you're wasting money on group classes that don't even address your pup's specific concerns. I also personally connect with this training facility's philosophy concerning dog rearing, and its very important to find a trainer that understands what YOUR ideal future with your dog. My dog is essentially my child: I want him to be educated, know the boundaries of the world he lives in, and I want him to enjoy being my eternal companion. If you share similar ideals, this is the right trainer for you!

They're awesome!! They did an amazing job with my dog and welcomed him into their program and household as if he were their own. They made me feel very comfortable with taking him and keeping him for two weeks at their stay and train program. While he was gone they kept in contact with me, sending me pictures and videos showing his progress and how he was doing. They travelled to my house to first meet myself and Tyson and they also made the trip again when it was time to bring him home. Very professional and great people to work with. I will definitely be boarding Tyson with them and when I get another dog she will be going to Clever Canine for their stay and train program!

Mandy and her daughter are amazing! We took our dog for a 3 week stay and train and he came back much more behaved!! They took many photos and sent me video throughout the process. Afterward, they took time to go over everything they taught him and how to implement it in my home. Thank you!!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We offer group classes or private training, and we can even give you a huge head start with our ‘stay and train’ programs where your dog stays in a home environment for the initial training, which saves you from having to do the hardest part!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We initially like to discuss with our customer what they would like to get out of dog training. We discuss current problem areas and strengths and I do a preliminary assessment. Often, I give some trainer tips to help with immediate areas of concern. The next step involves either a free evaluation at our facility or, if that is not necessary, we schedule an appointment that works best for the customer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Between us we have trained under a well respected service/ therapy dog instructor for several years at the advanced level. Lizzie has her certification in Scent Training. Lizzie also has her Puppy Training Certificate from Karen Pryer Academy. I have my Clicker Training Certificate from Karen Pryer Academy. We are both currently enrolled in dog training continuing education courses. We also have several awards and certifications we have earned with dogs we have tested with, including: SPOT ON, Canine Good Citizen and Canine Good Citizen Advanced, TDI, and agility trials. Lizzie is an intern at a service dog agency as well.
