Michelle's top 5 things to look for in a music teacher: 1. Make sure that the person is knowledgeable. They should have a degree in music and/or music education if possible. If not, at least look for a long history of successful teaching and study on their instrument of choice. 2. Make sure that your student is making progress on their instrument. If not, and THE STUDENT HAS BEEN PRACTICING REGULARLY, ask the teacher if there are any problems. Maybe the student just needs to have it explained differently. If things don't improve, and your student is still practicing faithfully, you may need to look for a new teacher. 3. Make sure the teacher is acting as a professional should. 4. Look for a teacher who seems to be interested in your student and want them to succeed! 5. If you can, go hear the teacher perform. It will give you a chance to see if they are the real deal.
