Introduction: I always work to please my customer and to create beautiful and relevant images that will accomplish precisely what my client requires. At the same time, I bring a wealth of experience, great technical knowledge and an unerring eye for being able to conceive of and create an attractive image out of an otherwise chaotic world. I like getting to meet new people, learning from them, and collaborating with them. Mostly, I just love the process of bringing beauty and unexpected visual excitement to people with my unique way of visualizing the subject at hand.

I loved working with David! Our pictures turned out so well. We had a very small wedding with our immediate friends and family and just wanted some pics of us and our loved ones. They turned out so nice. The photos look natural but well composed. David also went the extra mile to make sure they turned out beautifully. He was on time and was flexible with our location.

Details: Posed engagement photoshoot • Natural or environmental • Outdoors • One location • Online or digital proofs and prints • My home, venue, etc.

It was truly a pleasure to work with David. Since it was a big year for our family with an anniversary, graduations, etc. we wanted professional photos. David did a fantastic job advising us as to location, the best time of day for lighting, what to wear/not wear for the best looking pictures, etc. We were well prepared for the photo shoot and were able to capture some beautiful pictures. David is an absolute professional with integrity who takes his craft seriously because he genuinely wants his clients to be satisfied with his work. He was easy to work with, gave us great advice and information to insure that our pictures would come out great and they did. We would recommend David without reservation!

Details: Family or children's portrait • Candid (captured in the moment) • Natural / environmental (photographed in an outdoor setting) • Outdoors • Flash drive • My home, venue, etc.

David and I took a walk together in Ann Arbor last weekend. I was looking for some guided practice on setting up shots/my camera in preparation for some travel in March. We talked about metering and how it affected our snow-covered environment and he gave me some good insights that will help me in the future. I will likely hire David again and he seems to have a wealth of experience to share. I felt I got a good value for the money and an hour well spent.

Details: Wildlife / nature photography • Action • Beginner • How to get the most out of my digital camera • Lightroom software skills • Improve scene composition • 26 - 44 years old • My home, venue, etc. • At the pro’s location

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

For the type and level of the work I do, plus the expertise, talent, determination to get everything right every time, and the resources I bring to each job, my prices are very consistently low. Why and how is this possible? It's possible because, first, I jettisoned the incredibly high monthly overhead that was necessary to operate my previous very large studio and pay my employees. Then, second, by working on my own and, only when necessary, with freelance assistants, doing on-location work only, I have cut the need to charge my clients the very large fees I previously required.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First, I ask my client the most important question: what do you want to bring away from this job - what the subject is, how the client wants it to appear, what are their general and specific expectations. Next, I ask the further questions of my client that my long experience suggests. Then, armed with their answers, I give the client an idea of how I will do his or her job, what resources I will bring to the job, how the client can best prepare for the shoot, what the results of the shoot will be and how the results can be delivered.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

As to education and training, I am a college graduate with a BA in art and literature and, off-topic, attended law school at night for three years as well. As for my truly relevant education and training, I have been an upper-tier professional photographer, catering to the needs of some of the biggest, most famous and most demanding corporate and individual clients in the country for over 30 years, and what I know about photography and retouching of photography could fill many instructional textbooks many times over. In fact, I have taught many aspiring professional photographers their craft and gave them their starts.
