FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Rates - There are no hidden fees, and the hourly rate includes all materials used during lessons, as well as additional practice homework for the student to complete between sessions. There are some package options for test prep to help make prolonged tutoring more affordable. Payments - I can be flexible about payment methods. I frequently accept payment via credit card, Stripe, PayPal, and Venmo. Let me know what works best for you! First Session Guarantee - I always offer a first session guarantee, so families who aren't sure about tutoring can give it a try risk free. If a student is not happy with how their first session with me goes, I will not charge for that session. Session Notes - I make a point of keeping parents in the loop about what we're working on during each lesson. I'll frequently check in and provide a written summary of what we focused on during the lesson or some feedback to keep the parents knowledgeable about their student's work and progress. Cancellation Policy - I ask for at least 6 hours notice before cancelling or rescheduling a session. If a session is cancelled less than 6 hours before the session is to occur, I may charge for the full session. All no-shows will be charged in full.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our new client process begins by first communicating with you to make sure that we gather all of the necessary background information to make sure that we can help your student. This includes not only information about your student's previous ACT and SAT scores, but also information regarding your student's overall academic experience, goals, and more. We then place your student with a specific tutor from our team based on what your student's weakest areas are and his/her goals. Your student will then work with our expert tutor for the recommended timeframe leading up to test day. Parents can communicate directly with the assigned tutor to get information on student progress and to schedule sessions.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our founder, Abby, worked as a professional tutor at Lindamood-Bell Learning Process in Edina, Minnesota while obtaining her Bachelor's degree from Macalester College, an academically rigorous college in St. Paul, Minnesota. During her time as a professional tutor, Abby enjoyed helping students meet their education goals as they related specifically to literacy and reading comprehension, as well as college test prep and essay writing. Later, Abby began freelance tutoring as an ACT tutor throughout the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Abby achieved a perfect score on the English section of the ACT while in high school, as well as high scores on all other sections of the exam. She found that this level of knowledge combined with her teaching experience and abilities proved effective in assisting students preparing for the ACT exam. As The Prepared Student has grown, Abby has recruited other young adults with similar backgrounds to work one-on-one with students preparing for the ACT and SAT exams, as well as the transition to college. All of The Prepared Student's expert tutors have obtained or are in the midst of obtaining degrees from prestigious colleges and universities throughout the Twin Cities. Some even hold Master's degrees and Ph.D's.
