Goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I teach clients that yoga poses are used to get into our bodies and ourselves, rather than using our bodies to get into poses. It is not the physical appearance of a pose that matters but whether or not the student is experiencing the physical and mental benefits of the pose. I strive to make yoga accessible, welcoming, and beneficial to yogis of all levels. I love the instant gratification that comes from simply helping people to feel better. I once heard that yoga and life in general, is all about relationships and I believe that. I cherish connecting with people from all different backgrounds and abilities. I think I learn more from my students than they learn from me! I enjoy creating community a sense of well being and empowering others to go a little deeper-to strengthen and heal themselves. My students motivate and inspire me to be a better teacher.

Jen has become one of my favorite yoga instructors! She helps make a "judgment-free" class for all attending a session. I may not be the most-advanced yogi, or smallest person in the class, but I always free welcome and comfortable. I really like how she takes the time at the beginning and end of each class to help us find our breath and still our minds, which is so important to a good practice. Personally, I like how she gives you time to flow through a series at your own pace and breath. I just close my eyes and lose myself in the poses... Oh, and I should not forget to mention her awesome playlists and scalp massages!!! All this explains why I have to sign-in almost 2-months in advance to secure an open spot in her classes.

Jen is wonderful, well-rounded instructor. I love the thoughtfulness she brings to her classes; everyone from beginner to advanced benefits from their practice. I always leave with the sense of peace and fulfillment.

Being a new yogi, Jen has taught me a lot about the practice. She does a great job at making you present in her class. I love for that hour I can just concentrate on the practice and not have to worry about anything else. It has been a great addition to my workout routine. Very calming and challenging at the same time.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes, reading books, articles, and taking additional training.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I love yoga, travel, and helping people.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you hire someone that loves what they do and has extensive training. There is no state or federally regulated system that licenses yoga instructors. Some instructors may have only had a weekend long training course, others may have 200 to 500 hour long trainings which are much more extensive. Whatever the training may be, I believe what matters most is that you find that someone who helps provide you with the the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of yoga-someone that gives you the tools you need to deepen your own practice. A good teacher can open the door for you, but only you can walk in. I also advise that people select instructors that get off their own mats! Teachers are there to help you, and should not be there for their own practice. Of course, some visual demonstration is needed from time to time, but teachers should be walking amongst their students, giving people adjustments, and watching to make sure people are getting the most out of their practice. If I am on my mat trying to demonstrate a perfect pose, my mind is not on my students. Also, if students need to are often looking at the instructor to see what they need to do, there is also a risk of injury as they student may hurt their neck depending on the pose they are in.
