- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am attorney Justin Schiks. A Minnesota native, I am a graduate of Forest Lake High School, the University of Minnesota-Morris and William Mitchell College of Law. During my college years, I began learning about the law as an intern for the Stevens County Attorneys office. While in law school, I spent several years with the Washington County Public Defenders office. I represented hundreds of clients in bail hearings, arraignments and pretrial hearings. In addition, I worked with the Edina city attorney, prosecuting misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. My experience prosecuting cases has been invaluable to my work as a criminal defense lawyer. After earning my Juris Doctor degree, I founded Schiks Law Office, P.A., where I focused on DWI representation and criminal defense. I have successfully represented countless clients in felony and misdemeanor cases, achieving dismissals and resolutions resulting in no conviction. Later, as managing partner of Mohammad, Schiks & Jaafar, P.A., I practiced personal injury law as well as criminal defense. Today I am a proud member of member of the Washington County Criminal Defense Panel and the Washington County Criminal Defense Clinic. In 2014, I had the honor of being selected for The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers. The members of this prestigious invitation-only organization are selected as the top trial lawyers in their states who exemplify superior qualities of leadership, influence, public profile, reputation and stature. I was also chosen by AVVO.com, an attorney rating website, to receive their 2014 Clients Choice Award, which is given to attorneys who achieve superb client ratings and reviews.
