Introduction: I am a freelance paralegal, providing services to lawyers and other legal entities. I have a specialty certificate in litigation; however, my work experience has been in criminal and family law. I also have a bachelor degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
I have helped attorneys with criminal cases, from beginning to end. I review, analyze, and evaluate the case and provide an overview of what we are dealing with to the attorney. I do the following:
* research all the laws involved
* provide a list of witnesses, people to depose, deposition questions that are helpful, and any motions that need to be filed
* prepare the motion if requested
* transcribe witness and defendant interviews
* assist the attorney at trial (if needed)
I am currently working on my third major case. The first case I worked on involved felony Assault 1st degree and armed criminal action. The defendant was facing two life sentences. The defendant was acquitted and walked out of jail the same day. In the second case, our defendant was accused of two deaths by heroin overdose and was also facing life sentences. Because of discrepancies that were discovered, the defendant was able to get a plea bargain of ten years.
I have also provided research for family law attorneys.
