If math or English is stumping you or your child, give tutoring a try. Not only does it improve self-confidence, but it is also an investment. I have been tutoring (over 200 students) for more than 30 years while teaching math and language arts. I am National Board certified for the second time, and I have a master's in education from Furman University. Although I love my job, tutoring is especially enjoyable for me. Watching students get the "aha" moment and truly understanding how a sentence is structured grammatically or how negative exponents work and why is so much fun. Each student is different; tutoring allows the teacher to find misconceptions and correct them, to tailor to different learning styles and personalities, and to go at the student's pace. I am a very patient, warm, artistic, enthusiastic, and a knowledgeable veteran teacher. My students do exceptionally well on standardized tests and wind up loving math or language arts even if they came to me loathing it. I am also flexible, willing to work with your schedule, and has the ability to pay.
