Introduction: I teach traditional fiddling, based in the styles of old-time players from the American South. My experience with fiddling goes back over 30 years. I have played with well-known old-time string bands, and have performed nationally and internationally. I have recorded six CDs, and for the last 25 years, I have taught private students as well as at workshops and music camps around the country.
Learn to "speak the language" of fiddling fluently and expressively, play tunes by ear, and develop the rhythms and phrasing that make traditional fiddle music so distinctive. You'll learn to play tunes set in standard violin tuning as well as in altered tunings.
I would be delighted to work with you, whether you will be starting from scratch, or you are an experienced player looking to bring your playing to a new level. I accept students from age 12 on up. Students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for in-person lessons
Study with me, and you'll get a lot of individual attention! I support lessons as needed with audio and video files, tune transcriptions, and help with follow up questions and concerns.
Lessons via Skype: If you'd like to take lessons with me but live too far away, this is a great way to get individualized instruction. All you need is a broadband connection, webcam, and a subscription to either Skype or Google.
