Introduction: As a guitar teacher for over 30 years, I've had the privilege of teaching literally hundreds of guitar students, the past 11 years as the resident guitar teacher at Charlotte Academy Of Music in Charlotte , NC. During that time, I have also witnessed the increasing popularity of the extended range guitar be it 7 or 8 strings. On several occasions, I've had students show up with a new 7 string guitar but have struggled to find much in the way of meaningful 7 string lesson material to offer them a structured lesson plan. Adding to that my own love for modern Progressive Metal, this led me to the decision to create what is now "Life On 7 Strings", a unique core curriculum type course that addresses both theory and technique for the 7 string guitar, with the Prog Metal shredder in mind! The “Life On 6 Strings” course is also available either as a standalone or companion to LO7S.

Robert PJ Bussey was my guitar teacher from 1996 to 2001. I was in my early 30s, and thinking about what I wanted to do next in my life. I had a love for music, along with a bass guitar which I wanted to learn to play. PJ spent two years teaching me to play that. During this time I discovered I could write song lyrics. To be able to put music to my words I felt I should learn to play guitar, so we spent another two years on that. As I would learn new chords I would try to incorporate those into whatever song I was working on; that forced me to learn the chord. In 2000 my good friend, who sang and played guitar, and I went into a recording studio, along with PJ and other musicians, to record and make a CD, which honestly was a highlight of my life; Im proud I did that. Im eternally grateful for the time PJ spent with me - I owe a lot to him.

It is a pleasure to write this review on behalf of my colleague, Robert Bussey. For six years, Robert was a Guitar Instructor at my music school, Charlotte Academy of Music. I was continually impressed by Robert's high level of organization and communication, and most importantly, the dedication he showed as a teacher. Highly experienced in many genres of music, Robert taught many students of all ages with various goals and interests. He showed the students a great deal of respect in regards to their own musical goals, while maintaining a good balance of teaching solid technique and theory. I am very excited at the possibility of Robert offering ensemble classes at Charlotte Academy of Music, hopefully in the near future! I cannot say enough good things about Robert Bussey, both as a teacher and as a person. The Stuff of Legends School of Guitar is highly recommended!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My Life On 7 Strings (LO7S) course and Life On 6 Strings version (LO6S), available through my website, are currently my main modes of teaching. An 8 string version is not yet available. There are currently 10 Lesson modules available either as bundle or ala carte. Each module contains 3 PDF files, 3 .gpx (Guitar Pro) and 3 videos. It will take you approximately a year to master these initial lessons and more lessons are in the pipeline. Each module is $5.00 and I am currently offering a 10 module bundle for $25 at 50% discount.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Most traditional and even modern methods have you learning the fretboard a few frets at a time in what's known as position playing. I've seen the look of overwhelm many times when a student has mastered first position and now it's time to add more frets. It can seem to take forever. With my Robert Bussey's Guitar Drills Signature Course we start with a few notes over the entire fingerboard and then take away frets and add more notes in a way that emphasizes harmony. Gradually the entire fretboard becomes fair game and you reach a point where you look down at the fretboard and "see" music. That's where we're going with this!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I had 3 years of formal private lessons from age 12 until 15. My teacher put me through the Alfred's Guitar Method Books 1 - 6 and taught me Rock as well. I've put myself through many methods ranging from Classical (Aaron Shearer Classic Technique) to Blues (The Blues You Can Use Series) to Metal (Troy Stetina's Metal Guitar Volumes 1 & 2, Rhythm and Lead, Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar and Fretboard Mastery, John Petrucci's Rock Discipline) These are just a few and I even have some method books memorized due to having taught from them for so long. In addition, I am also a previous member of “The Elite Guitar Teachers Inner Circle” a training and mentoring group for guitar teachers.
