Harrill and Sons just plumbed a new home that I built. They did a great job and were very reasonable and professional. I would definitely recommend them to anyone need in a service work, repair or a new house plumbed. Sincerely, KH Construction

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I hired this crew to re-plumb a remodeling job on a small 1000 sf house, do some carpentry work, sheetrock, paint, insulation, etc. After months of trying to get these guys to finish their shoddy work, I had to pay another set of crews to come in an redo almost everything that this crew did. The walls that they built were crooked, but didn't show up until after the sheetrock was done. The sheetrock work was pathetic, left huge holes after they hung doors before the sheetrock was finished. Couldn't get the sheetrock guy back to finish it, said he was on a drunk. Most of the doors were either too high or too low, so I had to pay another carpenter to remove and rehang all the doors, pay someone to finish the sheetrock work. Pay someone to re-paint, they thinned down the paint so much that when the touchup was being done, it all had to be repainted, had to pay another plumber to finish the plumbing (hook up the sinks, dishwasher, shower. Then pay someone to go back and pull out the insulation and hand it right - they hung in backwards. I still need to pay someone to pull out the vapor barrier, clean out the debris under it, and put it back down. Plumber dad took my stainless steel bathtub fixture and must have lost it, he's brought back pieces of cheap plastic to do piddly work, but won't finish it or bring back my $150+ fixture. I've given this crew months to make their work right, but all I get are excuses. Pathetic work, terrible customer service - run from these guys!!!!!

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I hired Cole Harrill and his uncle, Gary through their business with Dellinger Builders/Harrill & Sons Plumbing. They contacted me through my request with Thumbtack. The project was to renovate a large old barn on my property. After a couple of meetings to firm up what exactly I needed done, I felt they would be able to take the project on. It consisted of replacing a lot of rotten structural wood, new siding, a new metal roof and painting – and some various smaller updates. We agreed upon an all-in price for the work. They informed me I could expect completion in two-three weeks. The project seemed to start well. They began their work and all seemed fine. I wasn’t crazy that they did not provide any receipts for materials purchased, but I figured that was okay since the all-in price was worth it in the end to me, to have the work completed. As we began to get into the project, I noted there were several day here and there, when no work occurred at all and honestly I was fine with that in the beginning – everyone needs time off. And rain days were unavoidable. Also – while discussing the work with Cole and Gary, they made suggestions to do more here and there to improve my remodel idea and I was grateful for the suggestions and agreed to their upgrades and the increases in price. As a few weeks stretched into months, I saw them less and less and I began to notice the work done was VERY sloppy; extremely poor craftsmanship. The work seemed it be no better than any amateur with a nail-gun could do. I worked construction for a while when I left the military as a young man, so I know a bit about how things should be versus what I was seeing. I discussed these concerns with Cole and Gary and was assured anything I didn’t care for would be corrected. I also noticed they didn’t seem to have the help (staff) they started with and Cole informed me they had to fire someone from their team but it was touchy because the people who had been helping were family, etc… And that a previous person helping them had gotten messed up with drugs but they were bringing him back into help some… All these red flags were popping up but I had made the commitment and I got along with these guys personality wise, so I was not thrown off balance yet… All along the way, even as I saw horrible errors in how things were being done and would call them out, they assured me everything would be to my satisfaction before the work was done. Some examples: (by NO means all of them) When they ripped the old tin roof off, instead of going through and replacing the rotten wood that was exposed and accessible at that time, they immediately put the new metal roof on. They did replace a couple of obvious pieces of wood but there were many that were just left in place. In fact, in a portion of the roof where one angle of the roof transitions to another, there was not an actual purlin in place to rest the new metal roof on – and instead of just installing one, they screwed the metal down and added a transition piece of metal between the two sections (which we agreed to do) and then screwed metal to metal with no other support perpendicular to the metal line. Not only did this look wavy and awful, it was in no way going to last long term. When I complained, they went back and added scraps of wood to the underside of the roof inside the barn to screw the metal roof to so it would be more snug – but those scraps of wood were affixed to nothing – just hanging between the rafters… When they put up the siding, they did one half of the front of the barn and then came back and did the left-side as if they forgot I wanted to do the entire front and so now there is a huge seam that runs up the middle left side of the barn where the siding was not interlaced in as it should be. We agreed upfront that the barn would be painted white with a good coat of primer first. I showed up one day to see half the barn painted with just that old cheap Tractor Supply “Barn White” paint – no primer at all… So I asked them to continue painting the entire barn with that paint and I went and bought good paint myself in another color and had them repaint the entire thing again so I used their paint as primer. Had I not caught this mid-way I’m certain it wouldn’t have been done at all. And when they painted, I asked in the nicest way possible – please take the extra time to avoid overspray, move any long grass out of the way (which had grown up in the months we were underway with this), to please wipe down any wood with debris on it, etc… They did none of those things. And in fact, sprayed one wall which was covered in dirt and grass – just sprayed right over it… And the entire outside needed another second coat at least and was horribly streaked up and with runs, heavy and light areas. Just horribly done. They added a set of stairs in the inside back of the barn. The design idea was good and execution was fair. Aside from the stringers it was all rough cut – which is fine, but the treads were nailed down crooked and the main vertical support beam bearing the load didn’t even touch anything at it’s top. When I asked about this – they spanned a 1 x 4” board across the gap and nailed it in place. Nice fix… When I called out several areas of rotten wood that yet needed replacing, they just faced over those rotten areas with additional rough cut boards using minimal nails (into rotten wood so I’m sure that will last….) When replacing the old wood exterior walls in the breezeway of the barn they used rough cut 1 x 8’ boards which was fine – but they had let it sit out someplace until it was all black with mold on both sides. Then told me I could remedy that with bleach. I asked them to scrub it clean and if it didn’t come clean to replace it. That never happened. When 2-3 weeks spanned into three months and I was told on a couple different occasions that they had underestimated, and that they were just “trying to get out of here” – I knew we were entering real problem territory… After several weeks of not working and taking vacations to the beach and having 11K of my money (of an agreed upon total of 12K) they said they were going to come out ONE MORE DAY and “finish up.” There was at least a two week’s worth of work to be done if they hit it hard every day…. But I was told they were going to do one more day and complete everything. When I said look, guys, that’s not fair to me – please take the time to do this right, I got no reply. When I asked what specifically they planned to do on that final day, I got no reply. Bear in mind that throughout this entire project I bent over backwards to be accommodating to anything they needed and paid them thousands of dollars at a time with no receipts whenever they asked for it. If I had - somewhere along the way - been a jerk or had been way too overbearing or was tight with the money, perhaps I’d get why they were treating me and the project so crappy but I did none of those things. I was agreeable the entire way and even when I asked for corrections, I did so in the nicest way possible – treating them as I would hope to be treated. So in the end, when I knew that “final day” was coming when I was certain they would half-way do what THEY wanted to do to finish and then expect 1K more, I said “no…” just come and get your stuff (which by the way had just been left ALL OVER the barnyard for months on end) I cleaned up TRUCKLOADS of trash for them during the project and afterwards. They would throw water bottles and trash just all over the grounds where my animals were – and routinely left gates open so my animals got out… I had to hire a new group of folks and paid them SEVERAL THOUSAND MORE dollars just to correct what Harrill & Sons did incorrectly and what they simply refused/failed to do. Let my experience be a lesson for you. DO NOT hire these people and secondly – get everything in writing. I have learned a very expensive lesson in dealing with these folks. In fact, Cole Harrill was very apologetic in the end that they were essentially giving me the shaft – but they were grateful for me firing them off the job… (!!!!) and when I mentioned it, even thanked me for not going to the local magistrate!
